Seeing the world In a different way

One of the more notable landmarks in Ottawa's byward market area is the giant eight legged sculpture of an egg carrying spider in front of the National Gallery of Canada. Maman is a bronze, stainless steel and marble cast creation by Louise Bourgeois. This sculpure represents fertility, motherhood in a icky yet interesting way. It draws us towards it and the Art Gallery in an almost irresistible hypnotic fashion. When taking different views of the spider it almost makes you believe that there is an alien invasion going on. Sort of like what happen during the bicentennial 2017 event Ottawa had with La Machine. I recommend visitors come see both Maman and the Art Gallery when they come to Ottawa. If you like my photos, videos or reviews sling your web in a thumbs up direction.

Very close to the Royal Canadian Mint and the Parliament. Sunday afternoons are less crowded as I experienced, should be able to find some parking on the nearby streets. Definitely worth admiring the artwork. Do google MAMAN spider sculpture by Louise Bourgeois to know it's history and background.i guess only you can appreciate the art since many view the spider as a scary creature. Creative thoughts brought out with this sculpture in Ottawa.

A giant spider sculpture in front of National Gallery of Canada, worth checking out when touring nearby areas. Great spot for taking some nice pictures. An art piece created by French-American artist Louise Bourgeois.

Definitely a turning heads attraction just outside Canada‘s national gallery. It is huge that it’s difficult to size it just by pictures.Be sure that if it does not impress you, at least it will make for several amazing pictures when you’re visiting Ottawa.

Very nice sculpture. Maman (1999) is a bronze, stainless steel, and marble sculpture by the artist Louise Bourgeois. The sculpture, which depicts a spider, is among the world's largest, measuring over 30 ft high and over 33 ft wide (927 x 891 x 1024 cm). It includes a sac containing 32 marble eggs and its abdomen and thorax are made of ribbed bronze.
