Ottawa Roller Derby

J'ai joint Ottawa Roller Derby en 2012. C'est une ligue récréative bilingue et très inclusive qui te permet d'avancer à ton propre rythme. Lorsque j'ai commencé, je ne savais pas comment patiner et maintenant, je fais partie de l'équipe des Bytown Blackhearts. Le roller derby est un sport à découvrir!

I love being a part of Ottawa Roller Derby. It’s a super fun and friendly league. I like that you can progress at your own pace and don’t have to play on the team if you just want to skate for exercise. However, I love being on the Bytown Blackhearts team :) Also, the coaches work hard to make practices fun and dynamic. The overall league culture is very welcoming and encouraging.

Been training with these folks since fall 2018. This is a really friendly league that makes learning how to play roller derby so fun! On the track, roller derby is about literally unapologetically making space for yourself by pushing people others out of your way. Off the track, it’s all about inclusivity & acceptance & camaraderie.

Depuis un an, j'apprends à jouer au roller derby avec Ottawa Roller derby. Je n'étais pas particulièrement en forme quand j'ai commencé, je n'avais pas patiné avec des patins à roulettes depuis l'âge de 5 ans. Et pourtant, depuis un an, je m'entraîne maintenant deux fois par semaine avec une bande de femmes exceptionnelles qui se supportent et s'encouragent à s'améliorer et à s'épanouir. De octobre à mai, on s'entraîne à Gatineau et de mai à octobre, on joue à Ottawa. Je me suis réconciliée avec le sport grâce à Ottawa Roller derby. <3
