Rockaboo Mountain Adventures

Unfortunately our experience of the glacier hike was not like the other peoples who reviewed here. Our guide did get us safely up and down the glacier and it was good to get up above all the other tourists, but we got very little information about the glacier. We were told none of the crevasses were suitable for going down, which we understand they don't have any control over, but the citizen science" that is supposed to replace that experience was very tokenistic. Although it is a 4 hour experience

We booked a private tour with Rockaboo and we had Francois as our guide. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for any more. Both me and my partner are relatively fit/active but had no prior climbing experience. Francois took us to a new climbing area he has been working on with his friends, about 20 minutes out of Jasper. There was not one other person around which was amazing. We spent the day climbing and abseiling. Francois was helpful, encouraging and supportive and you always felt self. It was a great way to experience the rockies from a slightly different view! We also saw a bit of wildlife throughout the day (elk, sheep, prior dogs and cute chipmunks). Francois even dropped us back off at our hotel on Pyramid Lake at the end of the day. Would highly recommend.

I did rock climbing with Louise as my guide and it was a great experience. He was encouraging and safety-conscious and made the experience really good. There was a good variety of different runs from easy to more challenging, and although the actual rock face wasn't super tall, you can challenge yourself by choosing a run with less handholds. The view was absolutely incredible (literally right above the Athabaskan river) and I'd 100% go again and try other adventures with Rockaboo.

What a great experience! Marteen and Brooklyn, our guides, were so quick to get us started climbing. The instruction was short and brief, so we could get to the experience. As we tried climbing, they gave advice and encouragement from the bottom. 6 hours with them passed in the blink of an eye. Highly recommend this company and these guides. Fabulous experience.

We went ice climbing at Tangle Falls with Max, the owner of Rockaboo Mountain Adventures, and had an amazing time. We had no climbing experience and we were initially nervous about the climb and what to expect.Our day started at the Rockaboo office where we got fitted with equipment and signed waivers, then we piled in to the shuttle and Max drove our group of four climbers to Tangle falls, which is about an hour away from Jasper. After parking, we got on our gear, and it was a five minute walk to the climbing site. Max set up two lines for climbing, talked about safety, and gave us an intro to climbing. We then took turns ice climbing and belaying. Max checked everyone's setup before each climb, watched and encouraged us, and even took a few pictures (the ones posted here). Max made us feel very safe about climbing and was a great instructor.Tangle falls is about a 30 meter climb with lots of humps to stop and rest. It took us about 15-20 minutes to climb to the top and each person in the group had the opportunity to climb three or four times before the end of the day. I would have climbed at least once or twice more if there had been more time.The ice was very different in the two climbing areas, despite being only a few meters apart. The one side had more sun so the ice was softer and wetter, but easier to get the crampons and ice picks to dig in. The ice was much harder at the second line and I had difficulty kicking in the boots and getting a good grip. At one point my crampons gave out under me but the rope held me up and I was able to maintain my grip on the ice picks and recover. It wasn't scary, but my arms were a little tired and I appreciated a brief rest while belaying my partner while he climbed. We didn't feel particularly sore or tired at the end of the day, but we felt it in our core muscles two days later. My partner and I are in our early 40s and hike regularly as our main activity.Everyone had an amazing time and we're looking forward to future adventures with Rockaboo. I had initially booked for three people but one person had to cancel a few days before the climb and it was easy to get a credit.

My family of 4, (My wife and daughters 14/11, and myself) went rock climbing for the first time with Luis from Rockaboo. I saw the reviews a few years ago and I’ve been following them since. What an experience! My wife and kids absolutely enjoyed themselves! Luis was attentive, loves to chat, and made the experience amazing. Once again, thanks Rockaboo!

I had a blast doing the Tread Lightly Glacier hike! The tour guide was very knowledgeable of the glacier and its history. Unfortunately we didn’t get to go into the crevasses due to them still being still being snow covered, which isn’t their fault however we were then told late August and early September would be the best time to do that. I got to see beautiful views still and look into the crevasses that were starting to open up.

We did 2 adventures with Rockaboo during our family trip (including 10 and 12 year old girls) to Jasper and both were truly the highlights. The full day of Rock climbing with Frank couldn't have been better. His skillset, knowledge, safety oriented approach, and genuinely fantastic personality allowed for an epic day. We also did a full day private Glacier Hike with Sarah and Ben. Both were extremely professional and safety oriented while also sharing their genuine passion for and extensive knowledge of the Glacier and the National Park they both love so much. Even when the weather turned on us, they made the kids feel safe and stay calm as we hiked back off the glacier.Rockaboo is a first class business operation with fantastic guides and we will book with them again next time we get to the Canadian Rockies.

Hannah was a great guide for ice climbing. She was knowledgeable, personable and made it a blast. I highly recommend Rockaboo…we will do glacier walk next season
