I can't believe how bad the service is at this place. Slow and rude is the norm.

Back in the late 1980’s, early 1990’s, Canada Post decided it would start opening small post offices in retail outlets as a way to cut costs, improve accessibility and its public image. At the time this was largely applauded by the public who considered the post office to be just another branch of sour entitled federal government employees who often were lacking in customer service skills. The Shopper’s Drug Mart chain of stores was one of the first group of retail outlets to incorporate these mini postal branches into their stores. While this strategy has largely been successful, there are a few outlets which retain a poor level of customer service and indifference from the old large federally operated post office days. This is one of these locations. The customer service here is terrible, and I try to avoid it at all costs. I have not mailed anything from this outlet since Christmas because I dislike the treatment I receive here so much. Either the individual behind the counter is as about as intelligent and knowledgeable as a bag of hammers, or they are just bitter and mean. Over the years there has been the odd good counter person, but I can’t help but think they always leave for a better job. I’m of the opinion the management at this Shopper’s uses working behind the counter at the Canada Post kiosk as some form of employee punishment or purgatory from their regular tasks at the store (they are not government employees but employees of the store itself). Maybe this store has a bunch of bad customers, but I do not consider myself to be one of them. I don’t like going there at all, but am sometimes forced to use it because that is my local parcel drop off. I would get it moved if I could. Last Christmas I went to pick up a parcel, which the delivery service didn’t even attempt to drop off at my house (I was home at the time and they just put the card in the mailbox and took off). When I went to pick it up at the postal kiosk the employee said it was not there and had already been picked up. It was obvious she had no clue what she was doing. When I went back the next day to see somebody more knowledgeable they quickly found my parcel. When I mildly complained the female employee with glasses started an argument with me which needing to get the last word in sarcastically wished me a “Merry Christmas.” I haven’t seen her around the store lately so I hope she has been fired along with her dummer than dirt colleague. I still shop at the store and enjoy it. I just stay away from the post office here as much as possible.
