CaST School

I have two children at CaST and will be sending my third when he is old enough. This is a high school for the 21st century. The kids learn in small groups through discussion, questioning and critical thinking. There is no “Shut up while I lecture and you learn the material for the test” approach which is so common. The wonderful teachers are young, passionate and engaged and meet the kids wherever they are on their academic journey. While the academic standards are high,there is a refreshing lack of smugness and elitism in the school community and a lack of meanness and nasty high school dynamics among the students. It feels like homeschooling with an array of outstanding tutors and a school community to meet with everyday.

My son has attended Cast since its beginning, last year. He has absolutely thrived there, even during the pandemic. Lately, during the lockdown, I hear him in his bedroom, with his class and teachers during the day. He is excited and engaged and happy. The joy of learning is so exciting to see. When he has had a difficulty, the teachers are extremely helpful, and he listens to them because he likes them so much. He is motivated to complete assignments because he enjoys his classes. Every one of his teachers have been excellent and grew to really understand my son and how he learns. I can't recommend this school strongly enough!

My son has attended CaST since its inception last year and we are so grateful as to what the school has done for him. He truly has loved all of his time at the school and we have seen him grow so much, even during a global pandemic! The combination of place-based (different locations around the city) and online learning has been exceptional; with the online teaching second to none - simply incredible and he has thrived. The smaller class sizes have allowed him to become deeply engaged with the amazing, best-in-class faculty to which he has become so strongly connected.

My son has had an outstanding education at CaST School. Though their model is a hybrid model, they have been accommodating of his need to stay home during the pandemic and be extra cautious because of his risk factors. They went above and beyond to make sure he could participate fully in classes from the safety of our own home. Their ability to pivot from a hybrid model to fully online classes and back has been incredible. His teachers are engaged, and his synchronous online classes and conversations are lively and interesting. Moreover, I appreciate the effort his teachers have gone to to get to know him and accommodate his learning styles and his needs. As a graduating Grade 12 student, he's been given excellent guidance regarding university programs and the onerous application process, and I'm grateful to the entire teaching and administrative staff. I'd give this school ten stars out of five if I could.

He no longer complains about school; avoidant behaviours have disappeared.And what a brilliant concept - a combination of traditional classroom setting, on-site/site-specific classes and virtual classes provide each student with the opportunity to learn ways that best suit their needs/preferences. My son is a grade 11 student and has been attending CaST since its beginning, and I have nothing but positive things to say about the school and all the staff! He has been thriving despite the challenges the pandemic has presented, with the teachers moving seamlessly between in class and virtual teaching. The small class sizes lend well to engaging and interactive online discussions, and the 10am start time is perfect for teens and their sleep rhythms.Communication with the teachers and admin staff is effortless with any and all questions being addressed quickly. I feel so fortunate to have found a perfect fit for my son and I look forward to them guiding him (and us!) through the rest of his high school career!

CaST is a wonderful place to teach! The freedom granted to teachers allows us to not only cover, but go beyond the narrow walls of the curriculum. Our small classes allow us to tailor lessons to the interests of our students, encouraging a learner-centered and self-directed approach to learning.

CaST has provided an environment for our son that is innovative, supportive and hands down the best teaching faculty anywhere. Our son has ADHD and CaST has strategized to help him develop the necessary skills to be a successful student. Patience and caring in abundance!
