JV Training

I've had the opportunity to take several classes with Julia from basic puppy classes to advanced sport classes. Julia is a fantastic positive-reinforcement-based trainer that truly sets you up to succeed with your pup. The JV Training classes are kept small so there's plenty of one-on-one time, and Julia is always willing to customize the lesson plan to suit your goals. In addition to being a positive and supportive classroom environment, most of the skills are taught using games, so the classes are fun for the people, as well as their pups!Here's 15 week old Buddy rocking his place" command in our 4th week of the JV Training beginner puppy class."

We had a great experience with junior and senior puppy classes. They were well informed and knowledgeable. The classes helped me gain confidence to keep working with my dog. It is not cheap, but I would not want it to be, it was good value.

Julia and her team of trainers are amazing! I have two labradors that I've been bringing to her since they were puppies. Her classes are fun and informative and she always makes time for one on one training during the last half of the class. Not only have my dogs benefited from her training program, but I have learned the techniques and skills I need to continue their training at home and out in public. Julia has always been available to answer my questions in and outside the classroom, and she is so encouraging when we hit a plateau or behavioural issue I'm not quite sure how to handle. I cannot recommend JV training enough! My dogs and I are so grateful for them.

Julia and Melissa are some of the best dog trainers in Guelph. At a point when we were really perplexed of what to do with our Bernese pup who was nipping a lot, we now have a well behaved pup who's working on containing her excitement. Every week's training session seems to be getting her to where we want her to be. Julia and Melissa are doing a fantastic job to help us and our puppy succeed. We're learning all the tricks to make her patiently wait for food, not jump on us, walking her on a loose leash. We're thoroughly satisfied with the training classes and so is Nala (our puppy). JV Training is highly recommended!

I’ve been to lots of good trainers and training centres but JV Training is by far the best! Super kind, knowledgeable and understanding trainers that make classes fun and help you work through any frustrations. They’ve been super accommodating with Maisy’s reactivity and nervousness, and now she loves it there! A great, clean and fun facility with lots of toys and equipment. We’ve only done 3 lessons but will be back to do even more in the new year!

Julia has some amazing training skills. We are so happy we found her and took advantage of the private training program. It has changed our walking experience and we are no longer afraid of encounters with other pets on the street. Julia is professional, but keeps the sessions light and fun too.Our story:We were at wits end with our two dogs, one mid-size mix-breed and one large Bernese Mountain dog. I was unable to walk them at the same time due to their extreme reactivity to other dogs. Our large dog even learned which houses had dogs in it and would react even just to the house when walking by. It made it nearly impossible to walk the two dogs at the same time, often ending up embarrassed of their behaviour, apologizing to other owners, and just avoiding any and all other dogs.After consultation with Julia, she gave us a few tips to implement during their regular walks and we were able to see improvement in both dogs within a few days!!!! We then immediately booked Julia for Private sessions at our house/neighbourhood, as this is where the dogs are at their worst. She worked with us to teach us the skills we need to implement during their walks and some obedience in the house as well.After 6 weeks of 1/week training sessions with Julia, and a lot of consistency and hard work, we could successfully walk past dogs from across the street that would normally make our large dog completely lose it. Our large dog now keeps eye contact with us, almost ignoring the other dogs presence. I'd say its a miracle, but there's no miracle here, its all Julia!

The whole team at JV training are amazing! We started with Junior Puppy class at the end of 2021, and have since completed Sr. Puppy and several of the Levels Classes (now working on advanced levels). We have also attended some of the specialty classes offered - sports, tricks and recall. Link absolutely loves attending class and so do I.The training team excels at building the foundation for success with each dog I've seen go through their classes. They focus on both the dog and handler, ensuring that the team can be successful in meeting their goals. I have learned so much about my dogs cues and behaviours that I never would have picked up on prior to attending classes.I highly recommend JV Training! The people are extremely knowledgeable, caring and fun, making the environment a great place to learn.

Thank you JV training for amazing group training sessions!Haengbok is a little shy and cautious in new situations and we enrolled in group classes to help build her confidence and learn new skills around distractions. The first day in it took Haengbok 10 minutes to get comfortable, and during her second class she almost immediately settled in. Julia and her team are very understanding and help us if she is ever struggling with something (like the pedestal board). I can say that after 4 sessions she is comfortable with the facility and enjoys coming in to learn. Sometimes she’s so exhausted from learning that she ends up napping on her place mat halfway through class though… (what a slacker!)

This is my second very positive experience with Julia. Six years ago, we went for puppy training for our Dane, Moose. He was quite a pup to wrangle. Julia helped us to get him to be the very well behaved dog he is today. Her approach is positive, calm and gentle. She gave us the tools to live confidently with a giant breed. Fast forward to May 2022, I immediately thought of Julia when my mother rescued a 4 yr old Chihuahua/Pug mix, Jake. He was terrible on a leash, barked at everything, knew no basic commands, and was reactive to other dogs. My goal was to have daily forest walks with Jake and Moose. We called Julia. Within 1 private session, she got him to sit and ‘look at me’. We were stunned. There is something about Julia that these canines respond to, willingly and with great interest. We persevered with 4 more private sessions. Julia provided us with current training information, reading material and feedback and reflection after each session. Everything was so well thought out and helpful for our training journey. She also tailored each private session to help us to get to our goal. Well, I am so so happy to say that a Dane and a previously reactive Chihuahua/Pug can now joyfully stroll together in our local forests. Thank you, again, for helping us with Moose and Jake. Bravo Julia! You are a gem!

Julia helped me so much with my leash reactive, timid dog through both private sessions and day training walks. I have since become much more confident in my ability to manage his behaviour and I have learned to communicate in a way that he understands thanks to JV Training's help.I now attend Sports class with Erin to help build my dog's confidence and I am so grateful for the accommodations they make to help my dog feel comfortable in class. I trust them to always use positive training methods and help build a strong bond between dog and owner. Definitely recommend!
