Brought my HF rig for some amateur radio operation - QRP on the beach. Conditions not great but I managed to make a few CW contacts. Then I went for a paddle with my kayak over to Marina Island. The water needs to be calm for this trip across the channel.

Nice place. Washrooms are porta potties but other than that its an excellent place to stay and visit. Lots of Oysters!

Smelt Bay Provincial Park
This is now one of my favorite places on earth for sure. It's comparable to the paradise beaches I've seen in Mexico, it's something out of this world. So so so peaceful. Ranger Tim is really kind too. The bathrooms are super clean, lots of flies tho but hard to keep em out, the camping sites are so nice, space for two tents, maybe three, fireplace and a table. Also you can pick blackberries really close from there. Read the story of the black/orange bench, so sad :(

Beautiful spot for sunsets, lying on the beach and kayaking. Get reservations if you can for the campground. Campsites are a little smaller than the usual provincial campgrounds.

Amazing!!!! Very calm and beautiful pebble beach that extends from the park frontage at the south end of Smelt Bay. The Smelt Bay park is the only provincial campground on Cortes Island with 22 campsites.

Smelt Bay is very picturesque; the water here is beautiful, calm and incredibly inviting. I could spend all day in the water and looking around the Bay area. I would definitely recommend it for camping or even a day visit.

Beautiful spot! We also camped at the campground which was recently renovated - great tent pads, clean and new bathrooms. The park ranger was very kind as well! Highly recommend.

Smelt Bay Provincial Park
One of the nicest campsites I've been to. Private, out of the way but still easily car accessible (no 4x4 required). Staff were friendly, too.An easy walk to the beach with great views and sandy spots to rest.Water said to boil it, but washrooms (outhouses) were clean. As other reviewers mentioned, some of the sites had average privacy between neighbouring sites. They did plant ferns and shrubs and they're starting to grow in, and soon the sites will be very nicely private, but they are by no means bad right now.

Crystal clear waters, vibrant rocks, layer upon layers of mountains, and the most stunning sunsets!
