OMS Montessori

Our children continue to thrive at OMS Montessori - amazing teachers, and a wonderful facility, overall a wonderful school.

We've had a great experience with our child in the toddler program at OMS. We like that we can trust her education at an accredited and audited institution with a framework around giving children the freedom for autonomy, independence, confidence in their abilities with the guidance of supportive teachers. We have only great things to say about Montessori as a educative framework and want to sincerely thank OMS to wonderful school option! Thank you!

My daughter has been with the school since she was 21 months old (a little Chickadee) and over the years, I've seen her flourish intellectually, socially and emotionally. My daughter loves going to school and views it as her second home. OMS is a lovely community of caring people and we're very fortunate that we're part of this community.

Our family has had a great experience at OMS Montessori. Our daughter developed tremendously in the 3-year Lower Elementary Program with devoted teachers and a positive classroom. In the Upper Elementary Program, she has learned to become an active learner, not because she is being taught but because she wants to learn. We've been pleased with the organization and management of the school, the exceptional playground, the gym and sports, and the level of care given each child. OMS addresses any social concerns in the most constructive way that I've observed within my experience as a mom of 4. For example, in the context of a few children being unpleasant, they organized an activity every Friday for a small group where they had to work together in a fun setting. This helped resolve conflict constructively instead of being reprimanded. Only good things to say about OMS.

very poor admin; they have made multiple mistakes with my daughter's application, starting with sending wrong names on provisional offers then not replying to emails anymore, then asking for application fees and interviewing her twice (she's only 5!) and eventually saying 'we made a mistake, there is no place for her unless she wants to join the younger class'! We really expected better especially given their reputation and from previous experience with Montessori schools. Too bad!

The high teacher turnover was unsettling. Plus we only received maybe 5 - 6 of our child’s arts & crafts, projects, etc. from the entire school year. Not worth the money.

We discovered this gem of a school in the year before we moved overseas. In the few months our daughter attended OMS, I witnessed my shy little girl become a confident, curious little person with so much spunk! I have no doubt the loving, supportive environment of the Canary classroom helped her come out of her shell. She loved going to school (unlike her previous daycare experience) and left all smiles in the mornings. I can honestly say that pulling my daughter (and eventually, my 6 year old son who joined the summer program and loved it!) away from OMS was the most difficult part of leaving Ottawa for me. If we return to Ottawa while our children are still in primary school, I will certainly send them back!
