The ArtWay Studio

I have been a student at the Artway Studio for 5 years. Both Sonya and Denna create a warm easy-going atmosphere that is not at all intimidating. I have really learned so much from both of them. Students are encouraged to use the lessons taught to create our unique work. There is no right or wrong way to do something. I have learned so much about colour mixing from Denna's amazing sense of colour. Each project has a series of steps that are clearly laid out, demonstrated and explained. I highly recommend these classes for anyone; from the artist looking to hone painting skills to the person that purely wants to get in touch with their creative side.

My experience over 10 years as a student has been stellar. I love every class and I have learned a huge amount while having fun. My art has improved so much and the instruction from real artists (Denna and Sonya) is superb. They are inspiring and encouraging, creating a very positive classroom environment. I highly recommend taking classes.

The ArtWay is one of a kind! I have taken classes from Denna Erickson for several years, beginning as a very novice artist. I have learned so much. Denna is an accomplished artist and experienced teacher who creates a welcoming and supportive context for learning. An added bonus is the creative community that has been fostered and nurtured by Denna and Sonya at the ArtWay. I highly recommend this studio as a awesome place to develop skills and knowledge in painting and mixed media art.

I have been taking classes with for over a year now with Sonya and Denna. I have learned so much from both of them and look forward to classes every week. Both artists are so gifted and love what they do. They are great at sharing techniques and exploring different styles of making art. I'm constantly challenged, learning and having fun. I love The ArtWay Studio and I'm grateful that Sonya and Denna have created a learning environment which worked during Covid so that we could all stay in touch and encourage each other as we made art together from home. I look forward to getting back in the studio soon!

I have been taking classes on and off with The ArtWay for at least 8 years, beginning shortly after retirement. I had no previous experience, other than Grade 8 art. I have learned many techniques: colour mixing, painting, printmaking, collage, transfers, encaustics, too much to list! The process is both intuitive and therapeutic. Denna and Sonya not only amazing artists and great teachers; they are also kind, supportive and fun women to be around. If you are looking for a unique experience, inspiration, guidance and knowledge, I highly recommend The ArtWay Studio.

I was introduced to the classes at the Artway Studio as a beginner student about 8 years ago. Since then, I have taken various classes and find them well planned, learning different techniques and applications while working on a specific project. Denna and Sonya are experienced teachers and with their guidance and support, I felt that each project reflected my own individual style.My experience with the Artway studio has given me a creative outlet that I enjoy to this day and I am proud to display my different projects around my home.

The art classes with Denna and Sonya are amazing. The projects we work on are innovative, fun, creative and never the same. You'll explore a variety of techniques, learn colour usage, paint with mixed media, etc. The studio environment is also welcoming and empowering. It's a community full of support and encouragement, and where you can express your creativity with joy and freedom. Highly recommended!

I’ve been attending the ArtWay since 2014 - over the last 7 years I’ve been a regular at Sonya’s Wednesday night class - in person, and, during the pandemic over zoom. Sonya is a wonderful art teacher - she pushes you to learn and grow as you create new pieces - in turn this learning usually translates to life! Since attending her class I’ve made countless pieces family, friends and my own home - I even did an art show! I recommend this class to all artists new and old (in experience and age!).

These courses are awesome! Denna and Sonja are amazing teachers. I have taken several classes and always learn new techniques that reinvigorate my art practice. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned artist, everyone is made to feel welcome and given personal attention. It’s a great community of people.

I have been going to ArtWay classes with Sonya since 2013. Sonya is incredibly knowledgeable and creative in terms of mixed media. She's also a lot of fun and the classes are a true joy! Even her Zoom classes are fun and just as productive as in-person classes. Sonya has a gift of working with people of all experience levels and styles so that everyone feels good about what they're creating. When I started with Sonya, I had no painting experience. Now, I sell my own paintings and commissions. But I still keep going to Sonya's classes because they are so wonderful! (the photo is one of the mixed media projects from Sonya's class)
