Love the buns here and this franchise in general. Super soft milk bread filled with different flavours if cream that aren't too sweet. My favourite is their red bean flavour. Yum!They even have delectable savoury options like their egg burger sandwich.I am located in the west end and usually frequent their Square One location but I was in the area and decided to get some buns to go for the family. Quality is same at each. Will be back when I'm in the area again!

Try it for the first time, when I was there I was greeted pleasantly. I picked five flavors of their cream buns, but they ran out of their matcha flavor. The server suggest me to come back in half an hour, as they have another batch coming. Luckily they do. We tried them immediately and they are soft and my favorite are matcha and red bean.

A Wannabe Japanese Pastry Cafe!!!I have visited this place few days ago and purchased every flavour of the buns except the sesame flavour. But it wasn't what I expected. The filling was great and delicious but the buns... It's like the ham burger buns but much softer which is fine but the issue about these buns is that they were wet and soggy on every single buns I purchased. Let's just say it wasn't pleasant. Think of it like this. Get a bowl and put the bun in and pour 3 table spoon of water and wait until bun soaks it all up and you put the filling in the middle and start eating it... very disappointed. It wasn't cheap either.Next, I also got a caramep pudding. This also was a disappointment. This is definitely not a Japanese style pudding. Trust me. I have been to Japan and whenever I saw pudding, I purchased one even if it was over priced. The pudding they sell here doesn't have that bouncy texture. It is more closer to a mousse rather than pudding. Taste wise, it's not bad but if you were looking for Japanese style pudding, you will be utterly disappointed. To conclude, I think this is a wannabe Japanese pastry cafe but utterly fails to imitate it. The buns, maybe very few people might like it if you like cookie dough icecream or half cooked pizzas like Little Ceasars but it definitely wasn't for me. To name it pudding, I think it's a false advertisement but hey! If you wanna be a sucker who is willing to pay extra for anything that has Japanese letters on it, go right ahead. But just remember that I warned you in case you regret your purchase.

We went to the pop up Hattendo stand in Hillcrest mall. We were standing there for a bit before the worker acknowledged us. We got the seasonal flavours, white peach ($4.19) and taro mochi ($4.19). The buns aren’t that special just tastes like a regular bun. The cream is good though, we like that it’s not too sweet. There were bits of peaches and a few mochis in the taro one, could have had more.Overall, not that worth it for a small bun that’s almost $5 with a mediocre bun, but glad we tried the seasonal flavours so that I could review it.

As much as I love Japanese cream buns, I have a hard time recommending Hattendo due to the price. It may be one of my favourite foods in the world, but paying ~$4 for a very small bun that tastes good, but not great, is too steep for me. I'd only visit this place if you're ready to pay up for very brief yet enjoyable delight.

This is a high-end Japanese dessert shop. The premium quality is what you pay for. The experience of a Azuki cream bun was delicious. The bun was soft and cream was taste-bud pleasing. The bun definitely created a more dessert-like feel than a meal. Not too sweet. Perfect balance between creaminess and soft-holding of the bun. Great job.

Delicious buns, very different texture and flavors to typical Canadian cafes. I’ve read many reviews saying $4-5/bun is too expensive - I disagree - have you seen what eggs or bread cost nowadays or even a muffin at Starbucks costs ($3.5 for something that was made with junk ingredients). Anyway thank you to the owners for bringing a bit of Japanese food to Canada :)

I may have different set of taste buds/expectations when compared to someone else, but I find their products quite pleasing - haven't tried their sandwiches yet, maybe in 2022? - and my family totally loved the taste and texture of both their buns and puddings (they should've referred to them as dessert mousse as a more fitting name).

While the quality and taste of the buns are great, I am a bit annoyed about something. I have been buying from this location weekly since February. When I went on Saturday, June 17, the employee behind the counter asked me if I had a points card. I had never heard of it before, as I was never told about it. If that nice employee had not told me, I would not have known a points system existed. I spend a lot of money here weekly and missed out on a lot of points. Not right.

Bought a custard bun and a matcha bun to try. Nothing was impressive and the custard one was so bland.
