I will start out with saying that I was very skeptical when booking my stay here due to some previous reviews. We ended up having 2 nights at the Palmerston in a private room with a private bathroom on the 2nd floor. Some previous comments stated bed bugs and painted a very negative dirty picture of the location. I will have to strongly disagree with those reviewers. Our room was well kept, we checked for bed bugs prior to entering the room and there were no signs of any critters at all. The hallways and stairs were also kept very clean, they were white so any dirt was easily noticeable. The room was spacious with a microwave, fridge, and complementary coffee. The bed was also very comfortable and cozy given the cold weather of Toronto in the Winter. We did not have any temperature controls in the room and there was no heater provided, but the room was definitely comfortable. The bathroom was a wet one, this means that both the toilet and shower are in the same enclosed space. The bathroom had beautiful glass around the entirety of it with a curtain on the inside. Our room had a non-functioning soap dispenser and no soap, but luckily we had our own personal body wash and such from a previous hostel. This wasn't a big deal for me since I'm quite sure the staff would have gladly provided some if requested. The location for the Palmerston is close to the core of Toronto, but can be easily missed since it's just a small black door out of the sea of shops around the area. Entrance was via a code in both the main door and room door, so the check-in did not require any contact. With the location being so close to the downtown core, the street can cause quite a bit of noise. This is something to keep in mind if you are a light sleeper. Prior to entering the room (whilst we were checking it), a staff member walked by and made sure that everything was alright with the room. He seemed friendly enough but unfortunately I did not get his name.I will definitely stay here again if I were visiting Toronto.

Good location, clean place. Our room was facing the street and it was super loud all night. Almost impossible to sleep. Old windows don’t have any sound proofing. You can hear everything.

Great Price, ideal location. Check-in was fully automated and a breeze. Very clean private room. Management was friendly and busy upgrading and maintaining the building during my stay. For the price, it can't be beat. Would recommend!

Before I booked, I have called them to wonder if I can check-in at 12 am, because my filght landed at 10:30 pm. They told me on the phone it is okay, but when I arrived the Hostel, the man starting shouting at me get out of the hostel"

Tried to speak with owner about my reservation, first I got lied to about his identity, he first did not want to let me know his name. then when I called again I asked who I was speaking he said the manager only to find it it was the same previous person from the phone call. Imagine as a BUSINESS OWNER and having the right moral and respect for you guest. Once I explain my situation I got no sympathy just clear attitude. Then got Hugh up on. After the call I tried contact again only to find out I was blocked imagine that. How would i check in if I can’t contact you.

It's a no go...Room are definitely not good. The toilet and shower are in the room (just a curtain to separate, so no privacy. No curtains. A microwave in a room... And no commun areas ... Mattress is not confortable and the bunks are making so much noise.Luckily the guy at the reception was very nice and the location is quite good (easy access to the cable car)This place could be so much better

The Palmerson has a great location downtown, staff is ok. The beds at the dorms are very noisy, I couldn't sleep at all the whole night. Thankfully, it was a short stay. The 24/7 A&W restaurant is very convenient. Bring your towels and everything you need, they don't provide much, also something to cover your eyes, their windows let all the light in. Very basic.

This is a dorm there is no private room here. Booked a private room and then showed me the dorm. The manager was rude and did not provide me private room or refund. Sketchy people in the area. A&w burger downstairs and the food smell comes upstairs. Also noisy.

As far as prisons go, I'm sure this is on the upper end. However, it's still full of 40 year old men who smell strongly of smoke, one thin sheet to sleep under, and a rude owner who thinks he's running some kind of secret society. The building is old and reeks, and safety feels questionable. Don't expect amenities that many hostels have, such as: a kitchen, a front desk, laundry machines, a communal area, or parking. This is not a hotel either. It's a dingy old building. All of that said, this place is dirt cheap to stay in as far as Toronto goes. It is definitely a bed with a roof over it. They have small lockers. However, I strongly recommend going elsewhere if you can afford it.

I would not stay here again. Location is nice, but not great because if you have luggage you have to take a cab. There is a shower and toilet room in the room. The only wall is glass. No privacy. I can hear sounds, there are no curtains on the bed so I can see the light. I had the worst night ever. The stairs were very tiring because we had a big luggage. Long steep stairs. The other girl in the same room was sleeping with two people in one bed. I booked 3 nights rooms but I am wondering if I should book another hotel.
