National Car Rental

Absolutely stellar experience with this National location. The attendant was very friendly and helpful, and I was able to add my spouse as an additional driver free of charge, which is a really great convenience. But this National really shone in our time of need! Our 6AM flight was cancelled and rebooked at 8PM, so we had all day to wait with a toddler, car seat, and luggage. This could have been a nightmare, but National extended our rental FREE OF CHARGE! Amazing. Thanks so much to the team for making a bad situation bearable!

Reserved a car ahead of time online for a road trip and was surprised upon pickup when we were told that the car could not be driven to our intended destination (California). The website and my reservation email did not mention this or I obviously would not have booked it. We had to opt for a competitor which cost us more money than we had planned or our entire trip would have been ruined. Both the website and my email state the car could be driven throughout Canada & the US with no limitations listed. Very frustrating and misleading.

Our plane was almost two hours late--well past scheduled night time closing. National stayed open to accommodate those with reservations which was much appreciated. Car was clean and worked just fine, although it did have over 27,000 km. Also, no problem with early morning drop-off of keys for the required 4:00 am airport arrival. I would not hesitate to use National here again.

EDIT: I’ve opened a request with customer service. First call 35 min then hung up second call was able to file a proper request that was addressed couple of hours later. Adding 2 stars for the promptness & efficiency of the second agent. First agent has seen there was an issue but never called back or opened any request. More improvement is still required in that agency. Contracts are supposed to be all computed and dealt with more efficiently.More than a week after my rental for a business trip and still no bill issued nor any trace of my contract.Absolutely unreliable and it's putting me in trouble with my company.Avoid them as much as possible.

Booked a car two weeks ago. Arrived to Victoria from Edmonton, Alberta, they won’t rent a car to me because I am a GDL driver. It has not been indicated anywhere on the website that GDL drivers are not able to rent cars. The lady at the front desk was extremely rude. They sent me on my way with no car, essentially stranded at the airport. Extremely disappointed. Do not book with them if you have GDL license and from Alberta. FYI Hertz will rent to you no problem, with a cheaper rate and way better customer service!

Quick and easy to book online. When we landed had the car and child seat within minutes. Staff was friendly and didn't try to upsell anything that wasn't necessary. I found their prices to be the cheapest at the time off all the rentals at the airport.

Renting from National Victoria Airport, has been a complete nightmare. I tried to contact customer service several times and promised a call back, but the call never came. Please make sure you take several photos before and after you drive the car and insist on being there when they inspect the vehicle upon return. Inspecting the car yourself for damage, and being confident there was none is not enough when dealing with a dishonest company. They contacted me and charged my credit card hours later when I was long gone and on my flight. Very strange, because I saw the employee go out to inspect the car before I left the service desk. I felt completely taken advantage of because I was not there to defend myself and they went in for the $300 damage deposit cash grab first and then came for more. No integrity from this company and zero response from customer service. Please choose another company.

Wonderful experience with National car rental at Victoria Airport. I had pre-booked a car at two locations and the customer service rep at this location merged the two rentals at a lower price than I booked them for. The car I rented was in great condition and very fuel efficient. I called the day of return to extend the booking and that was done seamlessly. Highly recommend.

Great experience renting a car with National. They have free cancellations and they had a couple of cars available last minute. The car I had was extremely reliable and clean. It was practically new with ~4500km. Came with A/C, maps/gps, a number of USB chargers, and push car start (RAV 4). The folks at the counter were personable and helpful. There is a $500 holding charge once you rent a vehicle just in case but you don’t get charged until you return the car. The area to grab the car is not far from the desk, maybe a two minute walk.

Be cautious if you rent from this franchise. We were charged extra for fuel although I had filled it up just a few kilometers away. I contacted the office in Victoria twice and they eventually claimed the car had not been filled and would not provide a refund. I then called the National headquarters customer service number, explained my situation and they immediately refunded the over charge.Lessons learned:1. Always take a photo of the gas gauge before leaving with the rental car (as it was not at/beyond the fill line when I got it) and also after filling it up upon return.2. Do not stop the pump at an even number as this could be viewed as a pre-paid amount.3. If there is no or an unacceptable response from this franchise call the headquarters customer service number right away.Final rating: Victoria Franchise = 1; National HQ customer service = 5.
