Thrifty Car Rental

The experience was fine during the rental experience, but months after the rental I saw an additional charge from thrifty on my credit card for 268.00. No letter, no email, no explanation.After many phone calls I finally figured out that this was a traffic violation. I tried to get info on it from all the phone numbers and websites to was directed to by thrifty, but there was no record of a ticket anywhere.After filing a dispute with my credit card company and calling thrifty for 3 days straight, they cancelled the charge because there was no record of any ticket. If there was valid ticket, I would have gladly accepted responsibility.The moral of the story- thrifty will try really hard to steal your money, and have the ability to charge your credit card without consent or valid reason. It will take a LOT of effort to retrieve your money.Super shady. Don’t use them.

I was afraid after reading all the negatives reviews. Fortunately I had the best experience at this Thrifty Car Rental. No line up, I was the second coustumer. I rented a Toyota Corolla and they upgraded me to a Camry with only 10 500 km in good condition. They didn't push me to buy extra but they explain to me what I could get without pressure. When I returned the car, it was really fast. A quick check of the car and see if the gas tank was full and that's it, they sent me the receipt via email, no need to go back to the office. No surprise on the receipt. I would definitely go back there if ever I come back to Calgary.Thank you for this good service!

When we arrived at the Thrifty counter an hour after our expected time, there wasn't a line-up (great!), but our reserved car wasn't available. Agnes at the front desk was very nice and waited in the parking lot to grab the first available car (it seems they share cars with other rental companies). We were surprised that insurance wasn't included in the cost (we paid for the car on credit card points) and there was an extra charge for two drivers. Agnes kindly didn't charge us for two drivers to make up for the wait. Return was fast and easy. Note to travelers - car rental in Calgary is WAY more expensive than Europe!

Reserved a vehicle through Thrifty's website directly. When I arrived to pick up the car, Thrifty tried to charge me an additional 50$ worth of fees than what was shown online.After some lengthy back and fourth with the employee, he eventually he eventually agreed to charge us the price quoted by their own website. After returning the car, Thrifty ended up charging my card the additional 50$ without my consent. I contacted customer service with proof of the online price and the discussions I had with the employee. They would not refund me the 50$... ridiculous.

Easy to find and staff is relatively friendly. When I arrived (later than pick up time) I was unable to rent the car because my previous account had not been closed. Had to wait for 45 minutes until the had figured it out. Once I finally got the keys I got misleading directions to the car which led us to search for the car for 15-20 minutes in the parking lot (a guy from Avis helped us out eventually). When I found the car I was surprised to find a completely different car than I had rented with no previous notice. It was an old much larger car which I certainly did not want and hadn’t booked. I went back and asked for the car that I had rented only to be told that there were no cars available like the one I had booked. If I wanted one they could give me one but I would have to wait minimum 1 hour. After asking again “suddenly” the car I had booked was being brought over and they were able to give it to me. Overall, a strange experience.

Our friends from overseas were dropping off their car here in Calgary after picking it up in Vancouver. They were severely over charged in Vancouver, convinced to rent a far larger vehicle than they needed because the agent told them it would be unsafe.... the agents here in Calgary were extremely understanding and kind and wished to turn our friends experience around. The manager gave great customer service and really turned their experience around and even saved them a bit of money!

I’m surprised by all the bad reviews - I had a great experience. I rented a Hyundai Venue for 5 days and didn’t have any issues. I made the reservations online months prior, was taken care of by a nice lady when I got to the airport, and I was on my way. The return process was a breeze too. I’d rent here again.

Had an awesome check in to rent a vehicle for the May 2-4 long weekend. Georges was at the counter. He was not only knowledgeable and informative, but so very pleasant to deal with. His cheery demeanour, positive vibes, and fun character made grabbing our rental super smooth and fun. He was excellent with answering our questions and able to help us upgrade to a larger vehicle and add a second driver. Definitely keep an eye out for Georges when you walk up to that counter, you won’t regret it!

This Thrifty location in Calgary airport is very accommodating. The agent named Agnes helped me through my reservations and went through the details of how Alberta driving in the winter is a bit different than Ontario. She gave me a decent upgrade with my car reservation and with winter tires!! That's a win! She was so easy and pleasant to talk to as well. I wish there's more agents like Agnes! I go Snowboarding every winter in Alberta and will definitely use thrifty IF she's still with them. 10/10!!

Thrifty at the airport was easy to find. My booking was 1pm and when I arrived, a car was not available.Winter tyres is an additional cost of nearly $20/day +taxes extra. I went in March and you defs need winter tyres if you're planning to explore more than just Banff national park.I had to wait an additional 1 hour for my car to be ready and cleaned...When picking up the car, the floor mats were clean but all wetI had to ask for winter tyres as well and cannot be booked in advanceWhen I asked for compensation about the delay, they only offered me a voucher with an expiry of 12 months but being an international traveller, it was useless...So dont plan any activities on the day of pickup of car rental as there may not be no available carsOther than that, drop off car was quite quick and customer service was great! Expect to pay airport surcharge and other additional charges if you booked through a 3rd party
