Captain Tom's Tiki Bar

Tonight, my roommate and I went to Captain Tom’s/ with Ken’s Pizza on Church Street in Burlington, VT. There were a lot of peaceful protestors walking by Church street throughout the night, all peaceful. My roommate went to the bathroom and when she walked out she overheard a man at the bar saying, ‘this is Burlington Vermont, this isn’t Minneapolis,’ and “some of them need to be shot,” then proceeded to talk about how “shooting them” is what’s needed to move on. She was very upset- walked outside to our table and immediately told me. I walked inside and asked that bartender directly “is that man (pointing to the only man at the bar) the owner here?” and she replied laughing saying “why, what’s the question?” I then said “I know what he said about protesters and that they should be shot and I want you to know that I will never ever come here again.” The man sitting at the bar then proceeded to yell across the bar at me, screaming. I came in quietly, said my piece to the bartender quietly across the bar, and he proceeded to scream across the bar at me. To which I said “And now he’s yelling at a twenty- something year old girl, do you realize how bad of business this is? We will never return.” As the man continued to yell and the bartender did not seem shocked, but just nodded and said “ok.”Given the reaction from the bartender, I am 99% sure he is the owner, and I could pick him out from a picture easily. For the owner to sit at his bar and say “some of them need to be shot,” is absolutely repulsive. I am not a confrontational person, but this story needed to be shared. People need to know who they are giving their business to, especially in these times. My whole purpose of this is just to share that when you go to this establishment- this is who you’re giving your business to.

Nice server and good sandwich! I liked their tucked away venue and we didn’t have to wait for a table.

Great spot to enjoy a beverage outside. Staff was excellent, atmosphere was fun. Will be back!

It’s Ken’s Pizza and Pub’s tiki bar behind the restaurant, offering their whole menu and beer list... just in a Tiki setting outside with Hawaiian music instead of inside with Billy Joel music.

They got Mai Tais and consequently I shall be back
