Alexandra Medical Clinic
A friend referred me to the Alexandra clinic a few years ago and I'm so glad she did. Dr. Ahmed is incredibly empathetic and willing to take the time to get to know you, ask questions, and treat your concerns with a great deal of care. I've often found that many GPs have very little interest or knowledge about mental health concerns so Dr. Ahmed has been a fantastic advocate in that regard. She's familiar with services available and won't hesitate to make referrals to mental health specialists and discuss appropriate medication options. She's also not quick to default to meds as many GPs are, not knowing any better. The only negative experience I've ever had at the clinic was when I had to visit while Dr. Ahmed was last on mat leave - her locum was very abrupt and rushed - eager to get me in and out without really listening to me or checking my patient history. I had an unrelated question about a medication I was taking and she told me I had to make a separate appointment, which I thought was a bit excessive. I chalked that up to her just not really understanding the values of the clinic and its practitioners. (Though the locum for Dr. Ahmed's first mat leave was fantastic.)I'm not really sure I understand the complaints about reception. The two front desk staffers are efficient and to-the-point. Yes, it often takes quite a while to get through on the phone. (Even more so with COVID.) I think people fail to remember that they're dealing with patients in-person, sending requisitions, cleaning examination rooms, etc. Like any business, the reality is that you often have to prioritize who or what task is in front of you over the phones - especially in a busy clinic like this. (Try calling a store on Boxing Day and see how long it takes you to get through.) For most medical clinics, online booking simply isn't an option, and I believe it would be detrimental to a clinic like this. Part of what makes the receptionists at the Alexandra Clinic so much more efficient than an online booking system is that they get the appropriate info from each patient to be able to ensure you're getting enough time allotted for the best level of care from its practitioners. (Would you want the same amount of time allotted to a pap smear as a prescription refill appointment? Probably not.) This only goes to show that the clinic staff are VERY good at what they do - though I can admit that a voicemail service would be a nice option for patients, especially if you might only have time to call on a lunch break when their office is closed. One warning for potential patients now though: with COVID, they are booking non-urgent appointments a couple weeks out and there is limited availability for walk-ins. The clinic is quite small, so they are being really diligent about keeping everything sanitized and keeping patients appropriately distanced. I was really impressed with how efficient everything was with all the additional changes and protocols in place. It took me a great deal of trial and error to find a doctor that was right for me, and I'm so glad I've been able to find a good fit at the Alexandra Clinic. It's really difficult to find this level of care anywhere else in Calgary.

This is not a walk-in clinic. The front desk person has zero bedside manner and unhelpful. I do not recommend.

Reception - Very very poor. Poor customer service, not a single smile, never answer their phones, impossible to speak to a human by phone. I have phoned them and been like 16th in their phone cue, only to physically walk in to the clinic and find no one on the phone receptionists just sitting there.Dr. Parker - saw him once for a minor issue, very personable, good bedside manor, seemed knowledgeable.Dr. Proven - saw him a couple of times for minor issues, good bedside manor, nice doctor.Dr. Ahmed - very very poor. knowledge of how to prescribe medications and laboratory tests is poor. Doesn't know which lab forms to use. Prescribed a drug for my wife and ordered a lab test on the same day only to go to the lab and be told Dr. Ahmed had given us the wrong forms, and the drug which she had prescribed shouldn't be taken in 14 days prior to having the test which she ordered. Her incompetence led to 14 days of extra pain and suffering for my family. Will not be seeing her again.

Like others, my so-called physician moved without notice. Now, I appreciate work from home and I think that many professionals can effectively wfh but I am sorry but I draw the line when it comes to physicians. Not even video calls, just phone calls...this just feels a lot like public fraud IMO. Service here overall is very poor but apparently you can get away with it in Alberta where there is a shortage of actual physicians to do actual in-person consultations.

Dr Parker is a wonderful doctor. The front line staff is ruining the reputation of this clinic with their incompetence and indifference. Was suppose to get a call back to go over Xray results. 2 weeks after Xrays no call. I called the clinic and was given an appointment to sit by the phone between 7 am and 2 pm to receive the call. Never happened. When I called to see what was going on I was told that they were very busy and to continue waiting by the phone. A quick call to those patients who were booked between 7 and 2, informing them of a delay would have been understandable and acceptable. I have had more professional service at a McDonald's drive thru window. The other problem, constant dropped calls or being bounced back to the bottom of the queue when they identify themselves.

I called to make an appointment with my doctor and was told he has moved to ontario and only does phone appointments. I found it odd that his patients weren't notified of his move, asked to see someone else was put on hold for 20 mins and was told the other doctors were to busy to see me. Call again and waited on hold for 15 mins then was hung up on, called back waited another 15 mins and was hung up on again. Not impressed with the Alexandra medical clinic and their staff.

I'll add my review to the people who say the service is not very good. The front desk can be difficult to deal with at times. They also have an absurd rule during winter that people need to take their shoes off, almost guaranteeing your socks will get wet. I have moved clinics in large part because of the front desk. I'll also add that parking is often unavailable.

The Alexandra medical clinic is the clinic you want to go to. The staff are great helpful and polite. My doctor there Dr rheena is not only helpful but she is the best doctor I've ever had in my life. She supports me in every aspect of my life.

I’ve been going to this clinic for years! It used to be amazing!! Unfortunately recently it’s been not so great! The one receptionist is amazing I’ve never had an issue with her! I have an issue with the new ones however! Also recently my family dr (Dr Parker) has been away a lot and only doing phone appointments.. he’s away again until sometime in July which has been hard when I have medical issues that need to be addressed in person most of the time.. dr Parker is an amazing as a Dr i just wish he wasn’t away as often as he is because now I’m stuck attempting to find a walk in clinic or go to emergency as an immune compromised person for a chest infection that he told me to come back if it didn’t get better with antibiotics… which it didn’t and I tried but now he’s not in the clinic…Feeling very discouraged by the lack of availability due to being away all the time… hence why I only gave two stars… wish things would go back to how things used to be with this clinic!
