Jay, Ian and their team are amazing to deal with! I originally bought my table from Jay a while ago but recently needed it moved to another location. Ian and the guys were professional and careful in every aspect and did an amazing job to ensure my table is perfect! Thank you so much!!!

Our family was shopping for a pool table of quality and wasn't really interested in an import table from China. After going to a number of places around the city that claim to build tables we ended up at Recreation World, the 50+ years in business in Edmonton was certainly impressive. Jay and his staff of installers took care of us from start to finish. The information Jay passed to us was detailed and left us with no doubt we made the right choice in this store. The number of options available was staggering. A true hand built table from craftsmen in the U.S. is a rare thing in todays buy the cheapest from Asia society we live in. After much deliberation and guidance from Jay we designed a table for order. There were a number on the floor to choose from however not the one we settled on. The table arrived when it was promised and the install crew was awesome. We are now enjoying our new piece of furniture immensely. It is an beautiful addition to our home and an amazing table to play on. Thanks Rec World!!!

The staff here are always willing to honestly discuss the pros and cons of any pool table that you're considering buying, and they've been in the business for about 3 decades now, so they know their stuff.I recently purchased a second hand pool table from a closing business (older olhausen), and scheduled it to get dismantled, moved and assembled. From start to finish, it was only 4 hours, including transportation time, before I was playing my first rack on the table in it's new home. I also received a lot of good advice for what I could do in the future for extending the life of the particular table should I choose that route in the future.I will definitely use them in the future for all my pool table transportation and maintenance needs.

BUYER BEWARE - items purchased not as shown and described, awful customer service, dishonesty and ghosting.My fiancé and I purchased a pool table from Jay in Nov. 2019. He convinced us to buy the matching wall mounted cue rack for around $1000. The matching table & rack looked beautiful in the showroom. Key word to the sale was matching. When we received the items, they did not match at all, and we were quick to send him pictures showing that the rack had a much different wood colour (essentially one a light brown and the other a dark brown). We would never pay $1000 for a cue rack that doesn’t match the table.Over the next 2 years Jay strung us along with excuses and promises, telling us that the rack would be replaced with the correct one, and that it is on “the next shipment”, which keeps getting delayed again and again. Jay continuously promised arrival dates for the replacement and then would never get back to us. So we would reach out to him again, just to get another excuse and promise. After an entire 2 years of reaching out to him, I'm almost certain that the replacement rack was never ordered and he was lying the entire time. We wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, so we bugged him for 2 full years to see if he'd finally come through.Jay, if you are reading this, we will gladly delete this review if you provide the cue rack you have promised is en route over and over. Truly, all that we want is a matching cue rack, as we were promised. For anyone out there wanting a pool table or accessories, I'd highly recommend looking anywhere but Recreation World.

Jay and his staff are the only ones that I trust with my billiard table and highly recommend them if you are considering purchasing one for your home or business. We purchased our table from him a number of years ago while we were living in Calgary (yes we came all the way to Edmonton to make the purchase). His staff came to our home, installed the table and did a jam up job. When it came time for us to move to a new home (this time to the Edmonton area) Jay and his crew were the ones that we called upon to do the job. Our table was carefully taken apart, transported to Edmonton, and professionally re-installed in our new home. Recreation World should be the only place you look to for your rec room needs!!

My story is starting to sound like the one James Procyk outlines. I ordered an Olhausen pool table, a California Table poker table, and several accessories from Jay MacDougall in Nov '19. Like James, I paid in full up front -- $12500. Like James, months have gone by and all I have to show for my order is a string of e-mail correspondence with Jay giving me one reason after another that the order has not arrived. Like James, Jay doesn't initiate contact with me to give updates. I always have to initiate. I was following up again tonight when I saw James' review and decided that my patience has run out. Hey, I get that the coronavirus situation has complicated the manufacturing and transportation chains and that could very well be the reason for my delay. I am getting a sneaking suspicion, however, that my order has not been placed with the manufacturers and Jay has pocketed my cash. After all, is it possible that nothing from my order has arrived at his store yet? Seems unlikely. I will update this review if something changes, even deleting it if the order arrives. If you are considering buying from Rec World, think twice. At the very least, do not pay in full up front. Am I going to have to sue this guy to get my money back?Sep '20 update: I wrote the above in early Jul '20. It's now over two months later and I still have received nothing from my order. Jay gives me another delivery date, nothing arrives on that date, so I ask for another update, rinse and repeat. Never does he reach out proactively to give me information. He won't show me the purchase orders that he placed with the suppliers so I can confirm when the orders were placed. There is no doubt in my mind that he took my money almost a year ago and delayed placing the orders for a long time. If you ask him about this review, he will no doubt claim it is false, perhaps even call me an idiot, just like he did about James Procyk when I drew parallels between our situations. I can assure you that none of this story is invented. I'm not a plant or a fake reviewer. The reviews are much more positive and the owner responds to most of them, even the negative ones.Nov '20 update: It has now been a year since my order was placed. In October, my pool table arrived but nothing else. They came over to set up the table, brought me a loaner poker table, and promised they would be back with my proper poker table and dart cabinet when it arrived in a couple of weeks. Well, a month later and still nothing. When I asked for an update, I got a generic a month from now" response. I replied requesting more details

I would really hope people read all the negative comments before even thinking about putting a deposit down with this thief because they’re all true. DONT DO IT! I Ordered a table from him months ago and doesn’t answer or return my calls. Now his number is disconnected. Does anyone know how I can report this as fraud?

My dad purchased the pool table I grew up learning to play on from Rec World in 1979, which still resides in my mother's basement. The purchase of my new Olhausen pool & foosball tables was a fantastic experience because of the professionalism of Jay and the superior assembly skills of The Master" Ian. Rec World products have been in my family's homes for over 4 decades and will continue to fill my games room for years to come. You will not be disappointed!"

Bought a Foosball table and an air hockey table in Nov 2021. It is now Jun 2022 and I still don’t have our air hockey table. Everytime I called the store to enquire about it, I would get a story about how it was stuck in logistics because of COVID. After 7 months, my wife and I got tired of waiting and wanted to get a refund. But the place has gone MIA. no one answers the phone, no one returns voicemails, and no one will respond to my emails. This wouldn’t be as bad if they didn’t have me pay the full $3,000+ amount for the air hockey table up front last Nov. so I’m out the $3,000, can’t get ahold of anyone, and still don’t have my table. I think I may have to take this to the police.

*CAUTION!!! THIEVES!!!**I ordered a 9' Diamond Billiard Table Dec 1st, 2018. At that time they said it would be delivered and set up in my house in 12 - 14 weeks. First red flag I noticed was that they required me to pay the full amount which was over $10,000 instead of accepting a deposit then the remainder of the balance upon delivery. I've always wanted a Diamond table and figured they were the onlydealers" in town that this was my only option.After 16 weeks I called Jay to see whats going on with my table and to see if it was on its way yet. Jay told me that it missed the production run for this batch and that his tables will be on the next run. He claimed to have something like 7 tables on order from them. He told me it should be here within a few weeks
