A short drive southwest of Calgary gives you great hiking trails and a breath of fresh air. Dogs permitted on leash only. If you want a private experience get there at dawn and bring bear spray just in case. Parking lot is full by 10:00 am. Donate $5 per car.

This is a gem of a place. From land donated by Home Oil in 1969, this small provincial park is nestled in gorgeous hills that overlook the Mountains and a beautiful ranching valley to the West and the City to the East. The trails are well maintained by a proud regiment of volunteers, some of whom we met on the trails. Thank you Home Oil!!

Brown-Lowrey Provincial Park is a wonderful park located close to Millarville in Foothills County. It’s about a half hour drive from neighbourhoods in the south of Calgary. The park offers a number of great trails that have some hills but overall, they are fairly easy. My two young kids (6 and 4) have come here twice and they were able to walk to the top both times. At the top is a great view with a view of a valley and the mountains on one side and a distant view of downtown Calgary on the other. The trails are numerous and you can go for a quick walk or a much longer one if you want. I highly recommend this park.

Just stopped for a washroom break. Parking lot was full with a lot of cars parked alongside the road.Washroom was clean (especially for a vault toilet) and all supplies were available.

Brown-Lowery is a great place for beginners to go for a short 2-3 hour hike that is not overly challenging. Its only about thirty minutes South West of Calgary off of Plummers RD. Great for most all ages except toddlers, there are a few steep inclines and tree roots that you need to keep your eyes open for, but the trails are well trodden and usually a posted sign at every fork on the trail. The trails are well taken care of, and dead trees are cut down on a regular basis for safety. It is dog friendly and I take my pooch on a leash. All trails lead to Eagle View viewpoint with an amazing vista of the valley to the south and mountain views on a clear day, also a nice spot for a for a picnic, with a couple of benches to relax. I recommend a mid week visit as Saturday and Sunday can get busier. Bring water.

Not a big park, so we can do most of it within a few hours. It's quite slippery on some trails and having traction devices will feel safer
