The Canadian Museum of History is a stunning establishment that invites visitors to delve into the rich tapestry of indigenous and Canadian culture. The museum offers a detailed and interactive exploration of French and English Canadian history, providing a captivating experience. One notable highlight is the striking sculpture located on the first floor, which adds to the museum’s artistic ambiance. The overall organization of the museum is impressive, making it easy to navigate and discover the various exhibits. Whether you’re new to the country or simply eager to learn more about this land, I highly recommend visiting this remarkable place.PS. There was a free entrance during the Canada Day

The museum is a really nice place to visit during a weekend. It takes close to half a day to take a look at every exhibit. The lower level has some really old arts that reflect the culture of indigenous people and their life size statues. The most interesting part are those designs on even a small spatula. The museum has many fun things to do. There are exhibits from every age. You seem to want to live in those times when life was not just about working and earning. That’s the vibe you get.Highly recommend this place.

Excellent place to learn about Canada's history. Clean, organized and enjoyable place. They suggested two and half hours to see everything. But if you like to read the information exposed, it is not enough time. I spent 3 hours and didn't get to the final floor.

We were able to walk from the Hilton Homewood Downtown suites over to the Museum. We found the museum to be above expectations. The Grand Hall was beautiful and full of Indigenous Totem Polls as well as a walk through interior area full of interesting artifacts and information. There was a truth and reconciliation area which was very powerful and really made us think about how far we need to go to help wrong the past choices. There was just a lovely flow to the whole museum and provided everything we could need. We highly recommend it.

An amazing museum where you can learn something new every time you visit. They have an awesome children’s area with lots of exploratory and learning activities. My kids love it. They also have an in-house cinema with a super giant screen and comfy reclining seats where you can watch documentary movies. As of May 2023, tickets cost $21 (adults), $16 (students), and $14 (children aged 2-12). Children under 2 don’t need tickets, and you save when you buy a family ticket ($53 for two adults and two kids). If you live around Ottawa or plan to visit often, it’s best to buy annual membership for $65 (a single person) or $125 (two adults and four kids). With the membership, you also get admission to the Canadian War Museum. Plus, if you visit Toronto, your Museum of History membership gives you free access to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM).

This is a fantastic museum for both young and old. I have been as a child when my parents took me and I have not brought my own children here twice, when they were 7 and 5, then again more recently when they were 10 and 8.There is a lot to see and do, and you'll likely get tired before being able to see all of the exhibits, so I would suggest blocking off a full day.The exhibits are very well put together, and while there is lots to read, there are also plenty of interactive activities to keep everyone engaged. Both times that I've been with my kids, there was more then enough to keep them interested without needing to visit the kids section of the museum, which is still worth visiting as there there is still interesting things to see and do there as well. There are IMAX films available, which are great and are screened multiple times throughout the day. There are also rotating special exhibits also available, which are also amazing, but of course time-limited. It's a nice way to see something different though if you go back for another visit.A café is available to purchase food, or you can bring your own lunch/snacks and seating is available.I would highly recommend a visit here. On both recent visits I've had to Ottawa with my family, this has been a highlight.

I recently visited the Canadian Museum of History and had mixed feelings about my experience. On the positive side, the museum boasts impressive architecture that captures the essence of Canadian history. The updated exhibits that focus on indigenous history and marginalized communities, such as LGBTQIA+ individuals, immigrants, and disabled people, were also quite impressive. The museum does an excellent job of expanding upon and improving these exhibits, and visitors can appreciate the attention paid to these underrepresented groups. However, the museum seems to lack original artifacts, which was disappointing. It would have been wonderful to see more letters, historic documents, and other items that are commonly seen in national-level museums in other industrialized nations. Unfortunately, much of this seemed to be missing from the museum, and as a result, we were able to get through the exhibits within a couple of hours, leaving us feeling somewhat bored.Additionally, the parking situation was less than ideal. The lot was jam-packed with cars, and it took us a while to find a spot after driving in circles. Perhaps this is to be expected in such a popular attraction, but it would have been nice to have had a smoother experience.Overall, the Canadian Museum of History is worth visiting if you are interested in learning about Canadian history from different perspectives. However, be prepared for a lack of original artifacts and a potentially frustrating parking situation. It’s also pretty expensive when one adds one adult with my student daughter and a parking bill. We did not have a chance to explore the children's section, so I cannot speak to its quality

We love to go there. We hosted kids parties there, visited multiple exhibits and the outdoors by the museum are great for picnics. The view of across the river is beautiful. A truly awesome place to take photographs.

Great museum with Canadian History and a special kids museum. Small children will enjoy section geared to them learning while immersed in play.I actually attended an after hours private Christmas party here too last December which was a great experience too with the Indigenous backdrop in the lower level.Coat check available, as well as ample underground parking. There is a decent cafe with snacks and lunch type items.
