Took a course with him, it was 3 days of some of the most fun I have ever had! I can't wait to take more courses.

Stopped in today to check it out and buy coal. Felt like I stepped back in time. Their pieces on display were fantastic. The pictures truly don't do them justice.

I just attended the Basic Blacksmithing Class and loved it. I wanted a feel for blacksmithing and this course will definitely give you that. Robb (aka THAK) has a lot of knowledge in the field and is an excellent teacher. The class sizes are small , so there is a good amount of interaction between students and teacher. The course covers things like lighting a coal forge, working the metal with a hammer, twisting metal, grinding, and hardening. There are also demonstrations on forge welding and other more advanced blacksmithing techniques.I have heard blacksmiths describe forging as bending metal to their will. Will power is definitely required for a complete beginner to take this course. The first day was a good 4 hours of learning to draw out the metal into different forms and you will have a feel for the physical level needed to blacksmith. Be prepared to stand all day. Day 2 is by far the most physically intensive, there is lots of hammering and lots of heat. If you are not used to blacksmithing, will power will definitely be required to see you through the second day but it is well worth the effort. Day 3 focuses more on fit and finish. By the end of the course I had a functioning pair of tongs, a coal shovel, coal rake, a coal poker, and a chisel and centre punch.Thak Ironworks is a great place to learn about the art and technique of blacksmithing. Robb makes learning fun and rewarding.

Purchased some of my Smith starter kit from Thak Ironworks. Arrived promptly, good, quality work on the forged tongs!

Bought a Peddinghaus anvil from this guy, what showed up was a cast Branco brand anvil from the Czech Republic... his response was he's been doing this for years and nobody has had a problem with it. Sent it back. False advertising, not impressed.

Thak guided me through the construction of a spangenhelm from beginning to end all in a very well-equipped blacksmith workshop. It was my first experience creating a piece of armour and incredibly fun and rewarding. I highly recommend anyone with the slightest interest in working with their hands to create a unique piece of metal art that can be displayed and worn!*** Update. I really enjoyed my second class with Robb (aka Thak) to create a knife. The day was very rewarding because Robb is an experienced teacher that uses a balance of showing you how to work the piece of metal you are going to turn into a knife and allowing you some freedom to make a mistake and learn from it.
