Holy Hannah! What an amazing little find, the staff was delightful and kind and the Lobster Benny was life changing! My husband had the Old Man Breakfast and between the bologna and homemade blueberry jam he is a happy fellow!

They don't sell baked goods... they sell baked INCREDIBLES. I haven't ordered something here that isn't delicious! The Spam and Ham hawaiian pizza was PHENOMINAL, a classic case of 'more than the sum of its parts'. Also there's an Asteroids arcade machine there, and like... that's wicked man.

Absolutely fantastic breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot. The eggs benny are among the best I’ve had anywhere, the hollandaise bright and lemony. The French toast and slices of home baked toast are excellent too. The scone wasn’t my favourite - too cake-y and sugary sweet - but that’s just my taste. The service here is very good; when they learned that I don’t eat bacon, which was on my Benny, they offered to make a new one and served up some delicious mushrooms on the side. Note that you have to order at the front before taking a seat - so make sure there’s a table available before sitting down! Can also be a little loud in the dining room if it’s full, but the patio is terrific. Overall I highly recommend dining here if you’re in Sydney!

Updated 2022:Selkies has the best Eggs Benedict on the island! If you eat inside you can take advantage of the wide array of unique hot sauces on the tables. The only thing I’d like to see changed is more comfortable seating outdoors, I’d love to eat out there but the benches are uncomfortable. My wife is a massive fan of their cinnamon buns.Original Review 2020:Owned and operated by the Mermaid folks, who happen to be neighbors with my grandmother - but that doesn't impact the review! They make a great Eggs Benedict and they even cater to keto and celiac. They made mine with no bun on extra bacon, and my wife's on a gluten free English muffin.Their hours are a bit odd as they close early and Tuesday is donut day.A nice addition this year is air conditioning. The food truck is amazing burgers and other comfort food, same quality as the sit down meals. Love the big chunks of salt on the potatoes! They are nice people aside from the great food. They let us use their wifi and outdoor water tanks when we are at our bungalow in Gabarus.

I love this place so very much. I love the amazing food, which is homey and comforting. I love the warm, friendly people. The baked goods are always so tempting and wonderful, especially the donuts and the Thicc brownies. We visit at least once a week; it is absolutely a home away from home. Don't miss Crunchwrap day!

An amazing eggs Benedict. The hollandaise was light and flavourful, three eggs on perfectly toasted English muffins. The dressing on the side greens was lovely and tart, and the side potato almost stole the show. We also had the Blueberry pancakes which were fluffy and not too sweet, and a scone breakfast sandwich I'm told was also delicious.Sat on the patio which had a great atmosphere and some live music.

Arrived just as they were closing but managed to purchase a sugar coated donut for $2.50 plus tax. It was a great choice as the donut had just the right amount of chew and it was so good. Staff were nice and the place seems quite queer-friendly.

Gosh, where do I even begin? I adore Selkie's and The Mermaid Food Truck with every fibre of my being. I wish I had the vocabulary to fully express my undying love for both of these businesses. From their stunningly delicious, hearty, and well-portioned meals to the warmth, friendliness, and expert hospitality their staff shows every person who walks into their diner or visits their food truck, I honestly believe that Selkie's/The Mermaid is one of the quintessential Cape Breton eateries.
