I had the privilege of attending the most recent Highway Maintenance Contract Procurement Information Session and it was a wonderful learning experience. It allowed me to get a sense of how British Columbia's public roads/highways work, as well as how the ever-important maintenance contracts are tendered.I would like to applaud the MoTI (and the CVSE branch in particular) for their June 2008 rule requiring diesel particulate filters on heavy-duty commercial trucks, which shows their continued commitment to keeping our - and your - air clean (I completely understand the concerns of those affected by the DPF rule - me included). I would also like to applaud the MoTI for exploring innovative new technologies, such as congestion- and road conditions-based variable speed limit signs, that help make our roads safe, even if the relative safety increase is minor.
