The Derby Manor
Beautiful building with superior service. Safety checks at door including Covid19 screening using temperature, contact tracing methods, and mandatory hand washing upon entering. Everyone here loves it. Its bustling with friendly people and health care staff caring for their residents. Seems like a five start resort rather than a retirement facility.

I was unsure about my Grandmother going into a rest home. After talking to other families and being there myself I found it to be a very happy place. There is a calendar of events for the month with 4 events each day.I can purchase a meal and sit and eat with her.She can go to the hair salon or the store in the hall. The biggest bonus for me is the care. I love the people who work there and the volunteers. Wonderful people. It has put my mind at so much ease I just am so grateful to know that even if I get sick she is cared for.Thank you so much for all you do.

If you asked my family 2 years ago this place would've gotten 5 stars. Now that is not the case. The food quality has decreased significantly with the rent increasing every year. My grandmother is a vegetarian and the team is well aware of her dietary restrictions. With seniors everyone knows that their meals are extremely important, however, the team does not seem to care. They do not think about Canada's Food Guide. They do not plan the vegetarian meals ahead of time. It always is an after thought to them, which means they do not care for my grandmother's health. My mother has to call weekly and request for changes but nothing is ever done. Today for example the meat eaters were offered a beef meal with a Spanakopita as a side. Instead of giving my grandmother a protein replacement they gave her 2 Spanakopitas. And that is just one many weekly issues that my mother and grandmother call about. But nothing is ever done.In addition, to the food issues their attempt at considering the mental health of residents during COVID-19 has been weak. There has been no extra effort to setup social distancing chats with family. There has been no effort put in to keep family and residents well informed. The Derby Manor has had no loss of revenue. In fact they are saving money, as they would've likely let go their serving staff. Why can't this savings go into creating social distancing activities and bring in mobile centres so that they can see family and friends? We know other Independent living homes have done this and put in the extra effort. I would also like to note that they have applied LTC rules on a place that is not considered LTC. So social distancing on the premise should be allowed. At one point when my mother was social distance (more than 2 m) talking to my grandmother outside on the premise one of the Derby Manor staff members said that someone will likely call the police, which makes no sense what so ever. But residents who drive are allowed to leave the premise and bring in whatever potential germs they have. But when there is a family visit outdoors being done the threat of the police is brought up. And let us remember this is not the time and place to be threatening people of colour with the police.Simply put in normal circumstances Derby manor is okay but not with the food. And during COVID-19 they have kept the virus out . But have not considered mental health which is a huge component of quality of life for seniors. I would like to see improvements.

Beautiful independent living place for elderly people. I have been to so many of these long term or independent living place and I kid you not as soon as you enter the building it’s smells like Stale cloth or wet dog Ehhhh….. But this building when you enter so clean smells so fresh. The staff is so nice and accommodating. Lovely Receptionist and Manager . People of the building are so sweet polite and funny . Green belt at the back lots of parking . Great food and pub night and lots of fun activities for your loved once.
