Thrifty Car Rental - Saint Johns International Airport

I went to budget but Google keeps adding this place in my timeline. I've changed it to Budget but this keeps popping up.If you've read this far, you're welcome for wasting your time.

Easy check in and drop off. Clean fuel efficient Corolla as requested.

Rented an Eco car and got a mini van. Gas is high, so it's not ideal. No staff upon checkout. Got charged $167.00 for under a quarter tank of gas. I even have a receipt to show gas being added first thing in the morning before departing the flight. The pump stopped, so I presumed it was full. Drive to drop off van and gas level dropped a little bit. They charged me $167.00 for 45 liters at $3.70 a liter. $167.00 there might have been 10 liters needed.... The entire tank is 71.9 liters... no way, even at 3.70 a liter, it took $167.00. So someone lies OR is steeling gas at the pump from customers when doing drop off.Waiting to hear from Tracy, the manager, as this is crazy!! I even have a gas receipt from my fill.

They told me that i can rent a car as a novice driver but upon arrival they denied and didn't give me the car. Waste of time and energy. Other companies were not like this.

I was a little skeptical renting a car from Thrifty in St john's because of all the negative reviews. Unlike the other reviewers I had a very pleasant experience. The lady checking me in was polite, pleasant and explained everything. The car was brand new under 10,000 km. Returning the vehicle was easy as well. I paid exactly what I was quoted when I made the reservation.

Super sketchy car rental - we were charged 200 more than what we were quoted. We got to St. John’s late at night and went to the counter to pick up our car but were told they didn’t have any vehicles available. They made an arrangement that Budget would give us a vehicle for the same rate as our reservation. So we went to Budget, who quoted us at 200 dollars more than our original quote. I told her that they were charging us way more than what we reserved for and she said, “Well, the taxes are higher here.”. I showed her my booking (thankfully I had printed everything before coming), and she proceeded to tell me that Thrifty would cover the difference. So we went back to Thrifty, and they said they couldn’t do anything - we would have to pay the full amount and we could get a refund upon returning the car. At the end of our trip, we went to return our car and were told they still could not issue a refund because “the manager” wasn’t there. We were told that once the manager reviewed our situation he would give us a call. It is a month later and we never received a call. I have been emailing with EasyRentCars trying to get my refund. Initially they asked for my address to send me a cheque, so I sent that, only to be told they couldn’t actually do that, and they actually needed my credit card. I am still waiting to see if I receive that refund. The whole thing has dragged on for a month. It is for sure a scam - it has to be. Otherwise it is the worst customer service and no one has any organization or any idea what is going on. If you book online with Thrifty, don’t expect a vehicle to be reserved and prepare to pay 200 dollars more.

Do not rent from this criminal organization. Took a huge charge from my credit card months after without any reason and are impossible to reach.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.I usually always use Enterprise, but they didn’t have any cars available at this location, and so I tried Thrifty for the first time because it was significantly cheaper too ($450 for 5 days for an SUV).However, they decided not to recognize my international license - which is legally valid in Canada, and I have rented just fine in this province and others.We ended up having to rent from another company for $1200 - since there is no other way to get around the island.You can kiss that refund goodbye. There’s no customer service number that works - you cannot event try to get a refund from Thrifty.Worst of all the staff at this location were very hostile and dismissive, not even willing to look at the law on their own provincial government’s website. It felt like they had made up their mind as soon as they saw the license and decided they wouldn’t rent no matter what.I wish I had read the reviews on google maps - I wouldn’t have even tried to rent from them if I had seen all these negative reviews.

Rented from May 19 to May 26. Excellent car, no car problems at all. They took a $ 300 Visa advance on May 26 to cover unexpected cost". There were none! tank was full

Hi readers, I rented a car on June 9th 2020 Until June 13th 2020. I was supposed to be charged a 200 dollar deposit which was incorrect because I actually was charged $897.00. It was technically a hold on my credit card but still an inconvenience trying to have the issue fixed. I even said to the customer service representative that there was an error However he continued to say I was wrong even though the printed off rented agreement stated that. Yet he continued to say I was wrong. To make matters worse I was given a Vehicle that I wasn't satisfied with and was supposed to have unlimited K/M However that wasn't the case. It just seemed as though I was having issue after issue. On June 10th 2020 the following morning I was in contact with a customer service representative named Wanda and told her I had several issues wrong with my booking and we agreed that I should visit St. John's international airport to fix the issues and address my concerns. She did help correct each and every mistake that was wrong on that day and also helped me switch vehicles which I was also satisfied with. Upon picking up my new rental it was supposed to have a full tank of gas but It ended having only a half a tank, Again I called and spoke to Wanda and had the issue corrected. Yesterday on June 13 2020 I returned with my Vehicle and was again greeted with Wanda and told her the vehicle was fine and I enjoyed it. Then we were proceeding to print off a copy of my recipe and we noticed that I was being charged a late fee when in fact my vehicle wasn't late. She had to correct that as well. Honestly She did amazing and made my experience leaving feeling at ease. I did mention perhaps some type of compensation for all the troubles I endured but didn't get anywhere. It's probably just policy not too be able to have some leeway when these problems occur. Would I recommend Thrifty? I honestly can't answer that question because everyone's experience will be different. Wanda was good at fixing up this complete mess and found she did a good job but on the other hand the first representative who created this entire mess didn't have a clue. At the end of it all I wasn't completely satisfied However I wasn't completely dissatisfied either.
