Old world charm with a beautiful view of English Bay. From the minute we walked in the staff were warm and welcoming. At reception they were fast and efficient while being polite and welcoming. The room was on the 5th floor. It was gigantic. It had two very comfortable queen beds a couch with a full coffee table and a flat screen which swivelled to any direction in the room. There was a view of English Bay. All the halls and furniture are antiques. There are so many photographs of Vancouver since the hotel’s inception. Also of Sylvia herself. The restaurant in the lobby is lovely. It has incredible views of the Bay and a great menu. Definitely go during “happy hour”. I had tea and roasted Brussels sprouts and they were delicious. The only drawbacks were, the couch in our room looked extremely tired and worn ( I wouldn’t sit on it without a towel) and the washroom wash beautiful and updated but it was very small and the water pressure was low. The shower pressure was fine. All in all, I would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat.

Great location, clean rooms and full of character this is my partner and I’s top choice to stay in Vancouver. We travel with our dog which can be challenging and the Sylvia is more than happy to accommodate even offering treats at the customer service desk. The location’s access to Stanley Park and the Seawall are a huge benefit to pet owners as well. Highly recommend dining in their restaurant too which offers ocean views of English Bay.

A great stay. Hotel is classy but unpretentious at the same time. Very clean. Amazing location and friendly staff. I’ve stayed here twice before and will continue to do so each time I’m in Vancouver.-1 star because even though I booked direct with the hotel, the price on my billing confirmation was not the price I paid at the hotel. They explained that the hotel price was actually $12 more due a “new tax” and it didn’t show up correctly on the website. That’s all fine that a new tax was introduced but the first time the customer hears about it shouldn’t be at checkout. They declined to honor the original price, which didn’t feel like the right thing to do for their mistake.

Oldest and most established hotel in the West End, still keeping up with the times. Very reasonable prices and extremely friendly, relaxed service. Nothing fancy on the menu but nicely done with a wide range of options. A go to for us for over 50 years.

Paid $339 for a king bed plus $20 for the parking. The service was good and front desk people were friendly and kind. This hotel was definitely not worth the price though. The room was old and really really out dated. As soon as u walk into the room you can smell the musty old house smell like I was in my great grandfather's house. No AC FYI. The heat was turned off for the season. Asked for a heater and they did brought a little portable heater It was loud enough to keep me up most of the night. Would I come back, NO!

In the restaurant, the food is terrible. I went for Happy Hour, and got hungry, so ordered a Green Salad with added chicken on top ($21 with an 18% automatic gratuity). The salad was old with limp greens and wrinkly old tomatoes. The chicken looked like ti was boiled, and it looks like it was just leftover scrap ends from the day's earlier chicken. Seriously, it should have been discarded but instead they served it to a paying customer. I've been a regular at the Sylvia Happy Hour, but I won't be returning. The best parts of the restaurant are the views from the windows, and the vines covering the exterior, definitely not the food"."

Absolutely loved our stay at the Historic Sylvia Hotel. Best Location in town. Right on English Bay; we were in walking distance to the beach, Stanley Park, countless amazing restaurants, cafes and pubs. Rooms are spacious and clean and loved the old fashioned charm and character. Bathrooms are all nicely renovated and modernized. If you are looking for a modern sleek hotel, this is not for you! All staff we encountered were very friendly. Can't wait to come back for another stay.

Great little hotel with restaurant. We had a room on 2nd floor. The room itself is dated, but the bathroom is new. Very clean too and comfy bed.No fridge but when asked about one, the reception desk said, no problem, I will have someone bring up!… amazing. The restaurant is good, great staff. I also recommend the little Italian up the road, off the beaten track called Robba da Matti. The hotel is well situated along a lovely part of the beach for great people watching.

I have stayed here before in the actual hotel, and it was a nice three out of five. I am in some disgusting annex over the parking garage, a very long hike from the elevator, along a sloped hallway that was very difficult to drag my luggage along - the slope occurs where this annex meets the main hotel. I had to get a chamber maid to help me open the door. The key was sticky in the door knob. Being as it is like an old bathroom door knob I probably could have opened it with a paper clip if I had one handy. The room smells musty, it is humid, and there is no ventelation. The thermometer is set to zero. The window, that overlooks some trash cans, and the alley, opens but not to a nice smell or any breeze. The room is stifling and uncomfortable, and I can barely breathe. This room belongs on East Hastings Street on the downtown east side. I am leaving to spend the night at a friend's place because it is absolutely disgusting and I am too uncomfortable to be able to stay here. If you book at this hotel, make sure they don't put you in this nasty annex over the parking garage. For this, they billed me $392.88 in total for the room with taxes.
