The Hamlets at Westsyde, an Optima Living community

When u come inside it looks great and welcoming the main area is bright and warming, staff are great and friendly. When you go to the other wing (secured) it seems to have less no nice chairs no fresh fruit then main area and less to offer to family visiting loved ones.

I am very pleased with the care my loved one is getting in The Hamlets, The staff I am familiar with,go above & beyond with love & care. I had a few issues I was not happy with, but I got on top of them quickly & had them dealt with, as I will not put up with any kind of incompetence.

Staff and home is quite discriminatory towards anyone with a disability.. specifically coming from their HR staff, which is even more mind blowing. You think they'd have better training on how to work with a variety of people on behalf of the company. Would leave zero stars if given the option, unfortunately, one star it is.

Can't say enough good things about my experience with the staff. The care and concern they have shown towards our family member and other residents is above and beyond. We feel at ease when we leave after visits knowing he is in the right hands.

My dad passed away whilst living there and no one sent a message or contacted us to express sympathy. He was charged another months fees even though he was deceased and it took me months of emails and phone calls to get a refund for this and the balance of his account. I directly emailed Bob Hatfield ( manager) and never got a reply. He talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.The home is totally understaffed and demoralized but I’m grateful to them for working in such conditions.

I tried to prepare my heart and mind when I found out Scott was living with dementia in a care home in lock up, but really,can you truly prepare yourself?I walk into the sitting room to find Scott looking out the window with a blank look, and just as I thought, Scott did not know who I was, which really is a given.What I did do, was pretend everything was cool and was as normal as could be.I visited for 3 1/2 hours, I got Scott chatting laughing and a few times he cried. We coloured actually I coloured and Scott tried, I shared the many fun memories we made together when we were connected.Scott only has his younger sister that visits once in awhile.I got Scotts mailing address , I am aloud to call and you can bet I will be visiting Scott again.When I was about to leave Scott hugged me like he wasn't going to let go and we cried ( man I hate goodbyes) My heart was filled as I gave of my time.Life is fragile - Handle with careP.S. The care workers surely were connected to Scott and Scott liked them

I believe the care my mom with dementia received was pretty good. However, when she passed, we asked to speak to Shelvy Drummond - the director, but she was not in. So we asked to speak Chelsea Allan (she steps in when the director is not on the premise) because we wanted to thank them. Chelsea REFUSED several times to come out from her office. The lovely receptionist explained that my family simply wanted to thank them. Over and over Chelsea refused. No matter how much the receptionist asked her to come out - Chelsea refused - BEYOND RUDE to a grieving family. I was quite disgusted by her adamant refusal to see us. She should not be in a role that has anything to do with families, emails etc.So the wonderful older lady behind the desk thanked us for coming to say thank you, and you could see that she was equally bothered, especially given the amount of times she pleaded with Chelsea to come out. Given Chelsea's behaviour, she should not be employed in a family/medical environment.To the nurses/care aides, etc... Thank you! You made my moms final days as comfortable as they could be.Jodi - Annie's daughter

So very pleased with the care my mother has received at the Hamlets over the past 2 years. The staff on every level have shown professionalism, care and concern for my mother's well-being. Always willing to listen when any concerns are brought forth. A great team!

IT TAKE 2 ELDERS TO DIE FOR ACTION TO HAPPEN HERE FOR THE HEALTH AND HAPPINESS! DO NOT PLACE LOVED ONES HERE AT ALL COSTS!!!0 STARS!Read the rehearsed comments on the reviews they give to any complaints here... exact same. Like its written down for them to repeat... it probably happens so often!.. looking for dirt on disgruntled past workers info before posting...And you really thinking of leaving your family with these guys.... SHAMEFUL

Was on a contract with hamlets for a couple of months but they shortened it because they said they didn’t need any more workers. There is so much drama there and if your on a contract they treat you like garbage. Had Covid symptoms and they didn’t want to pay for me to be stay here and get tested so last minute they said go home without no warning. I’m from Alberta so I have to pack everything and leave in a matter of hours. This company is so cheap and they don’t care about workers. For your mental health do not work here!
