Top Dogs Training Academy

Currently taking my 10month old German shepherd, Tala, to top dogs training academy, and she’s doing so much better already! We just had a private lesson with Drey, and he’s been super helpful and understanding as we bring Tala on this training journey. This is the second dog we’ve taken to top dogs, and we’re thrilled with their training.

Just finished the 8 week Puppy Obedience Level 1. Our Instructor, Patti was very patient and encouraging with all of the pups in our class. It was a great way to bond with my new puppy and Patti was happy to give me tips with any issues I was having with my pup in class and at home.

We bring our 7 month old Standard Poodle to Top Dogs Training Academy on a regular basis and we cannot say enough good things about the training that we receive from Barry. Barry is extremely knowledgeable, encouraging, professional, approachable, and patient when instructing his classes and he really takes the time to personalize some of the instructions/exercises to meet our puppy’s needs each class. The atmosphere of the classes are fun, the class sizes are smaller, which we appreciate, and each class allows us to introduce new skills as well as work on/strengthen skills that our puppy has acquired in previous classes. Barry has made us feel much more comfortable as handlers and we would highly recommend Top Dogs to anyone looking for excellent obedience training for your dog!

We enrolled in puppy classes almost 7 months ago with the intention of completing our 8 week session only, however we are still very proud clients today! We loved Top Dogs so much that we decided to continue with our classes and are now training for competitive obedience. I never had an interest in showing, but I really found my time in Barry and Stan’s classes to be so rewarding that competing seemed like an exciting goal to work toward.Today my 10 month old pup goes into stores with me and is so well behaved people ask me if they can pet her, or if they shouldn’t .... asking if she is a service dog. Every time it happens I beam with pride. We have come SO far. Never in a million years would I have thought my wild pup would be mistaken for a service dog!Top Dogs is not just a dog obedience school....for me it’s a stress reliever. I feel so great after each class, walking out with a clear mind. I’m a busy mom with two kids and a demanding career, making time for activities is not easy, but I always look forward to our classes at Top Dogs. Barry has been so amazing to let my daughter be involved in the classes from the very beginning. I honestly will always remember and appreciate his generosity with his willingness to let her participate so actively.Barry really cares about his clients, and you can see the happiness it brings him when his clients are succeeding and making progress. That’s what it’s all about for him. He loves what he does, and it truly shows.I would highly recommend Top Dogs!

My dog Jim and I have been going to top dogs academy for just over two months now and in that time I have seem enormous improvements in Jim. Berry is a fantastic trainer that is not just training Jim but training me on how to help my dog succeed. The class sizes are small and fun with lots of laughs but we still get loads of work done. Jim has really done a 180 since starting class' and has far exceeded my expectation. I will 100% be continuing going to Top Dog.

After a 20+ year absence from competing in obedience trials, I went on the hunt for a reputable instructor to help me with my new Doberman puppy Ripley. After two previous instructors who were only capable of following a lesson plan that had been written out for them, I finally found Barry!It was apparent right away that Barry possesses a lifetime of training experience with all different dog breeds, handlers and their combined personalities. He delivers a well thought out lesson, but alway takes time to adjust it to address individual issues that arise. He has a tool box of skills and ideas that provide solutions for every situation that every dog/handler team may present.I highly recommend Barry, there are very few trainers in Canada or the U.S. that have the lifetime expreience that he so graciously shares with his students. If you want an excellent obedience teacher, Barry is the one to learn from. He has so many years of experience and puts 200% into every class I go to. His classes are small, tailored toward each dog, and always full of fun. I have learned so much from him, and my two dogs have benefited tremendously. Since starting my classes three months ago, one of my dogs already has 2 legs towards her C.D. title. Thank you Barry!

My partner Anthony and I have been training our standard poodle Emma with Top Dogs Training Academy for the past four years. Training with Barry (obedience) and Phyllis (rally) has been a very positive experience and we are pleased to highly recommend Top Dogs to others.As others reviews mention, classes are small and there is a lot of attention to dogs and humans alike. Exercises are varied and creative, keeping classes fast-paced and fun. The atmosphere is positive, and we leave class feeling we have learned something new. Anthony and I have come to enjoy training (almost) as much as our Emma does.Training with Top Dogs has heightened my understanding of how to get the best from our dog. With an unwanted behavior, I have learned to look first at ways in which I may be unwittingly rewarding it. I have learned the value of consistency with our dog, so as not to confuse her with exceptions. And I have learned that communication with her involves not just verbal commands, but mood, tone of voice and gesture.Throughout our time with Top Dogs both Anthony and I have felt respected, well-treated and valued. Top Dogs has helped us bring the best out of our Emma, and it has deepened our relationship with her.

We took our 1 year old Russian Toy Terrier in for one-on-one training with Top Dogs Training Academy recently due to aggression issues. Within the first 6 minutes our Dog was much better! Not only was he interacting with new people for the first time but other Dogs as well. Barry (our Trainer) fixed him so quickly that we had extra time to work on other obedience concerns as well. We have another lesson booked and I am very excited to see what else we can pick up. This will not only make pet ownership easier for my Wife and I, it will also enhance our little pet's quality of life as he will be able to participate in so many activities. Money well spent!
