Saboten Express

I find it decent, but I agree with other reviews about portion of pork cutlet.*HERE IS THE TIP FOR CUSTOMERS*if it's two of you trying to have a meal from Saboten, try one loin set and one loin as a side.Only difference between the set and the side is, they give you a cutlet, cabbage salad and sauce but no rice, no miso soup, and so pickled cucumber.Since Saboten gives you too much rice, you and your friend can split the rice in half and have a meal around 21 dollars as total for two. Worked for me.

Saboten offers mainly Japanese style Deep fried Croquettes, Pork cutlets, breaded prawns served with rice and Miso soup. It's filling and the price is very reasonable. They just need to serve sauce with the cutlets, sort of oyster sauce or okonomiyaki sauce type The shop is super clean and staff are very polite and friendly.

Portion of tenderloin is ridiculous for the price. I got 3 nuggets cut in half.

Went on a weekend afternoon and there was no line. Ordered a Saboten set and the food was served quickly. Staff were polite and efficient in their work.The katsu was crunchy on the outside and the pork and chicken was still moist inside. The panko crust did fall off the chicken and the pork after one bite, so it wasn't perfect. The various sauces and seasonings were great for the dish, but there was no explanation as to which sauce was for which part of the set. That would have been nice.Yes, there was a fair amount of rice, but it tastes great with the seasoning so even if it's more than what's necessary, it's still good.

Yesterday I saw a server using phone and touching panko bread with no glove, no mask just because he has nothing to do. (After a whole another staff with mask and glove came and worked on) so discusting!! Food portion was very disappointing since I have tried Saboten from the other place. I would never go back again.

Not even one star.How come they sale like this...Each dish has Poor amount with $19 +tips..Miso soup was cold.They didn't give us sauce first time .I want to another restaurant after I ate this .feel like just had a snack .

0 stars if I can. I found plastic melted into my pork loin katsu on the last piece. And the server said that it wasn't her fault, she didn't apologize and her immediate response was I will replace just the piece of loin portion for you, like it wasn't even a big deal.All I wanted was an apology and acknowlegment that eating plastic is BAD for your health as I may have already ate some plastic. She continued to be unapologetic and when I finally asked to talk to the manager then she apologized.I want everyone to know that this restaurant does not take care of their cooking or customers. There have been many bad reviews for this restaurant by other people but I still gave them a chance. I regret my choice and I will never go there again. Both the way they treat their customers and their food is appalling and I hope people go to the other restaurants at Brentwood Mall. I am also planning to report this to the BC food safety commission and Saboten's head office. That is how appalling the attitude of taking care of their cooking and hygiene, on top of that the service is also terrible.

I went to Saboten for the Happy Hour BOGO loin set before 5 pm on Sunday, July 9th, 2023. After I paid, I realized the price wasn’t right. It’s 47 cents more than it's advertised (see the receipt photo). After a lengthy discussion, the cashier explained that they recently increased the price for the loin set but the discount was based on the previous price. Even though the cashier acknowledged the error in the receipt, She insisted she couldn’t change it because the discount was set by the computer. Neither did she offer an apology, nor a refund for the difference. So be aware of the price difference when you go there for the happy hour meal.

Tried the shrimp don and loin/tenderloin katsu. Flavour was authentic but quantity was strongly lacking. I personally recommend their don menu.
