Barrie Courthouse

The woman at the Justice of the peace office is an absolute nightmare. She yelled at me on the phone, gave me incorrect information (I called Barrie police who were baffled by her suggestions), and basically acted as a deterrent to Justice. Instead of helping people with the process, she told me from the beginning my case was a waste of time even though she’s in no position to give advice. An absolute goblin. She also hung up on me because she clearly hates helping other women.

I don't know exactly how to rate a court house because it is not like I have lots of experience to compare it to but I did feel the staff were helpful when filing court documents and explaining the process. Also I felt the court house seemed cleaned and spacious. I needed help getting educated about how to look for posted names and court rooms but once I was, I did find it easy to navigate. The only complaint is really how small the cafeteria was and lack of seating in it. I thought the building and architecture was kind of interesting though but very dated.

I fell down the stairs and not one officer offered assistance. Didn't even ask if I was ok. I was told there was no first aid office where I could get ice or a band-aid. Miserable special constables make the experience very stressful.

This is a decent courthouse with staff that do their jobs alright. They push diversion on Youth from what I've heard and don't do much to assist those that need it. Overall it's decent at it's core of court proceedings, just some ethics issue among staff I'd say.

There was an incident on Friday June 3 which caused the building to be evacuated. Although staff were permitted back the in building members of the public were not. I was very impressed with staff members who came outside to assist people who were part way through their business at the court office when the alarm went off. I had a package to deliver to the court office and a kind court officer offered to take in and deliver it to the appropriate office. Thanks to these staff for going above and beyond!

I understand the covid layoffs and lack of staffing but common! Courts are government and essential! Families are suffering to not have their matters looked after in a timely manner. Something needs to be done about this. Completely frustrating that its been 2 months since our final order and my order has yet to be typed up (office blames lack of staff- only 2 people and phones don't stop ringing so they are still in January's orders- its APRIL!!- GET THIS OFFICE HELP) and submitted to Family responsibilities office to stop my payments and reverse the child support. I'm paying out money to the father while my daughter is living with me and child support payments have not been reversed. These times are hard enough during covid this is the last stress parents need.

I called today to ask for necessary information to mail a money order for a fine that I owe. It was like pulling teeth to get information. I asked who I was mailing the money order to, 'The Finance Minister' was the quick reply. So then I had to ask for the address. And then the postal code. And then what information I needed to provide to ensure they money order was being applied to the correct fine. I was told that information was on the top corner of my paperwork. When I asked what paperwork that would be I was told it was the paperwork I had been mailed. I'm sure it would have been quite easy to be specific. Then when I asked how I would be recieving my receipt of payment I was told that I wouldn't get one. WHAT A JOKE. I'll be there in person to pay my fine and file a complaint. Do better.

I called several times for assistance on a family law matter. I requested a teleconference and was told to fax in request ..have done so along with my response letter and documents ,NO one called me to confirm or discuss my options. I call to check the status and what I should do as I cannot attend it's out of town I lack the money for travel and for childcare and I get nowhere just rudely told they cannot help me and don't know what my options are ...So frusterated as my court date is this morning and don't know what to do .Not impressed with the service and lack of consideration on important matters.

One for each of the 5 levels of incompetency, and the lacking in common sense of direction in your own workplace .Was pointed in the wrong direction repeatedly, to roughly 10 different spots! by at least 15 people! whom I assume all worked In some department of the courthouse. Only to find the way correctly myself by reading the pages posted on bulletins.Slight benefit of doubt. When the 3rd floor is in the basement ?!? and the main floor happens to also be the 5th floor ?!? It’s clear they don’t know which way is up or down.Special thanks to one(☝️) Woman, and one(☝️) other Gentleman ! who directed to said woman ! don’t quit your jobs! The desperately need you there.

Worst courthouse in Ontario. Received fines, tried to apply for a fine variance form. It has been almost a year since I have heard anything back. Every time I call they ask who did you speak to last time? Then proceed to play the blame game with each other. I am so fed up with this court and its employees. People really are going through tuff times and we need these Services and Courthouses to start doing their jobs and helping the community. Please go somewhere else for Court or Court services!
