Chartwell Duke of Devonshire Retirement Residence

I spent three months at theDuke(Chartwell Duke of Devonshire) inOttawa It was an altogether positive experience. The staff were superb; helpful, friendly, polite, accommodating to all my needs.The facilities were great keeping me busy and cheered with numerous activities such as daily exercise,movies crafts,and learning activities. the residents were mostly seniors usually singles,mostly friendly. I liked the open seating arrangement in the dining room so you eat around, and meet new people. I was there in the winter and my only adverse comment would be that if i were to have been there in the warm weather I would have missed outdoor parks,walkways since the Duke is located on a very busy street.

I moved my Mother into the Duke this past November. My experience with all the staff has been exceptional.Stephanie the Health and Wellness manager is really on the ball and responds to all correspondence in a timely fashion. The front counter staff (Sandra, Andrew, Dee and Alice) are all super polite, welcoming and very thorough with their Covid-19 screening upon entering the building. Makenzie the General Manager has been excellent at communication. I feel very comfortable with the level of care my Mother has been receiving.Thank you.....Great Job Everyone! :)

I’m quite happy with the service CDoD has provided my father with. He feels very welcome within the community and there are always staff nearby to help.

It’s always a pleasure assisting the Duke of Devonshire with moving in their residents –staff are always friendly and keen to help, the community is beautiful and they have so much to offer their residents! Highly recommend.

In September 2019, my mom had to reluctantly be moved from her apartment at 94 years old due a fall. She was a very independent lady and at first she was reluctant. However, due to all the staff on the assisted living floor being so supportive and welcoming, the transition was seamless. She was even able to celebrate her 95th birthday in the Duke's private dining room with friends and family. Although she passed away recently, I have much gratitude for all the care she received from all the nursing staff, personal care workers, activity directors, as well as the maintenance and front office staff who were always willing to do whatever they could to help. While it might be a little more expensive than some of the other local retirement residences, it is well worth it with their superior service and food. Thank you very much.
