Your oasis of nature in the city. Small trails, lots of animals and some great scenery too.

Kerncliff Park - Ian Reid Side Trail
Bit short on parking. It's quaint. Has a board walk but it is very dry this year. Nice view of the lake from the top of the cliff which is actually part of a second attached park called city view park. Much more parking up there. City view park also has a playground and sports fields.

We absolutely love Kerncliff park. The views from the top of the park are breathtaking and the trails are gorgeous! If you have a sturdy/rugged stroller you can walk some of the trails with it.

Kerncliff Park - Ian Reid Side Trail
Beautiful park less than an hour from Toronto. The trails are very scenic along the wooded forest area. It's particularly pretty during the fall season in mid October with colors in full fledge. The trails are not very long, but quite elevated. The view from the uphill is breathtaking. Amazing view of the Burlington town from the high point on the trail.

This abandoned quarry land is now a nature masterpiece. The facade the open cliff faces form is breathtaking. A wetland with active wildlife is a bonus!

There’s a bit of everything at kerncliffe park. Many trails to explore and creatures to see. Honeysuckles were blooming last I saw, as were a few other wildflowers.

Kerncliff Park - Ian Reid Side Trail
Kearncliff offers semi-groomed, forest floor trails. One is the Ian Reid Side Trail (follow the blue blazes) and the other is the Bruce Trail proper (follow the white blazes and crosses over Dundas Street). You can spend up to 2 hours hiking in one direction at a moderate pace. It's family friendly and dog friendly. Trekking poles are helpful when it's muddy, as the trails (in places) become like peanutbutter after spring-thaw or a heavy rain -- making the hills a bit tricky. There is a bathroom (port-a-potty), but it's locked at present -- so plan accordingly. Some parking is available, but fills up quickly on busy days (holidays/weekends/warm evenings). You will see wildlife, such as chipmunks and woodpeckers. Small streams and creeks with rustic bridges are also lovely features. Some of the trails cross-over protected and/or private property, so you must stick to the path in these areas.
