About the Business
Vixen Home - The Vixen in McHenry | The McHenry Downtown Theater closed down in January of 2022 due to lack of attendance due to the pandemic and the rise of movie streaming. The same group of community investors once again reinvested and remodeled to form what’s now known as The Vixen, the area’s premiere live entertainment venue hosting live music, comedy, spirits and more!

The Vixen
The food was very good! And big portions. I got a wrap and pickle chips and ended up taking half of it home. The appetizers were filling and large as well. The atmosphere is a fun relax place. I will go back.

It is what it is... The old movie theater building.We attended the Trans Infinity event and thought we were getting great seats when we opted for the balcony. Nope. We were told on the way (up the stairs) that there were no assigned seats, which we purchased. It was first come first served to very uncomfortable tall seats and tables. Huge disappointment.BTW, I'm handicapped and there was no elevator so I had to move my way up stairs. Even better... The handicapped stall in the bathroom had no hand bars so you were left to fall on your own.I gave it an upgrade to 3 stars since the show was great.

The staff is super nice and friendly. There is huge free parking lot across the street which is very convenient. The layout for the concert area is nice. I like the different levels and tables and chairs options. The only request would be for them to turn down the volume a bit, other than that, it was a great place to see a band.

Cool place for local music. Good, quick bar service downstairs. The only issue I had was that our reserved table was in the back, behind the main railing, so people in the standing area were hovering and trying to take our table. I'd recommend just saving the money and not getting a table there if that's all that's left.

A fun little spot to catch a show (comedy, music). Diverse drink selection with friendly staff. There’s a bar at the front and rear of the place with the main stage nestled in between - which is a decent size with an upstairs lounge/seating area. No food options at the spot but there are several restaurants next door/nearby to get a bite.They’ve got a slate of upcoming shows that look pretty good and I’ve got a few circled on the calendar. There’s ample parking across the street too. I was there for a comedy show so I can’t wait to hear some live music at the place.

Cute place, nothing overly huge, which is nice when you go to see something live. Drinks are a bit pricey & they definitely need more bartenders. Get 2 drinks soon as you get there so you don't miss most of the show.

A friend invited me out to a night of free local comedy on Wednesday. We saw five stand-up comics, two were very good, others were not bad (lots of Fox Lake jokes, didn't know it was a thing). The venue seats several hundred people with a small bar in front, and it was pretty full. I would definitely go back!

Great venue to see comedy shows and bands perform. Highly recommend checking a show out here. The stage and lighting effects are amazing. It feels like you are at a huge venue in the city without feeling like you're overcrowded or packed in like sardines. I really do love it there!

Loved this venue. Bartenders are very respectful, and the door attendants are really cool. The restaurant next door (DC Cobbs) has good food that can be eaten inside the Vixen while watching the open bands on live TV. There's also a fire pit behind the restaurant that has a skull in the middle of it next to a scenic river. It's a great place for a date.
