What a great little museum. Great for local fossils found with good background and interpretation. Also good displays regarding exploration in the Pacific from Whitby mm people and ships. Outstanding little café downstairs with great service and friendly staff. Only downside is that £7 for a small museum seems too much... Or it it me. I don't buy this one year ticket idea to hide a high price. However if you are visiting I would say it must be on your list for a visit.

A very unassuming building from the outside. I wasn't sure what to make of it. Once inside it's amazing to see how many exhibits they have inside. The museum features manly local history and sailing, but covers alot of other things as well. The staff were incredibly helpful as my wife was looking for several items that were made by a family relative. They went out of their way to find and identify all of the items related to her family member. I cannot say enough about the staff!Overall the museum is well worth the visit. If you're in the area I'd highly recommend a stop to see what they have to offer.

The museum is located within Pannett Park and has no car park so parking has to be on the surrounding roads. A few Disabled parking spaces tho are available behind the museum.Admission is £7 for adults which gives unlimited access for 12months but there is no reduction for Seniors.Despite these minor difficulties the museum is well worth a visit. Beautiful wooden display cases are crammed full of artefacts that are an eclectic mix of fascinating fossils to South Sea Island ceremonial dress. All showing a direct link to Whitby. There are no hands on activities for children but plenty of artefacts to keep them interested. It is the museum's 200th anniversary this year and there is a new area celebrating this. They deserve support.

What a brilliant museum. Full of some fantastic exhibits. Fossils, coins, art, models, costumes something for everybody. The restaurant in the basement is a Real must. We have eaten in various restaurants in the local area and the food is easily comparable to the restaurant food. Coffee was proper coffee in a cafetiere. Staff were very friendly. Great couple of hours.

A lot of interesting pieces, ranging from ships, nature and historical Whitby artifacts. Not a very big museum but certainly interesting if you're a fan of historical Whitby. £7 entry is a little steep however they have no funding from the government so it kind of feels like a very generous donation.

Amazing exhibits, so much to see. Loved the costume collection. Stayed for hours, still saw things on way out that I'd missed. Price includes return visit within a year. Also set in beautiful park/gardens and teashop. Highly recommended.

Museums aren't usually our thing but we decided to visit here mainly because of the pouring rain and have to say, were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to see. £7 a head, which lasted us for the whole day, as there was so much of interest to see, plus the tickets are also valid for a whole year's visit if you are still in the area. Everything from local fossil hunting to dinosaur remains found locally to social history and beyond, to eclectic mix of exhibits from far and wide. Set in a pleasant park to wander around as well. A good find!

Great exhibits of shipping, botany, wildlife and local history. There was a school visit going on and a boy aged about 9 or 10 very enthusiastically showed us where to go. Lovely cafe with friendly, helpful staff
