As a newcomer to the area, finding Shanti Yoga Studio and Joy (joy!) has been a warm homecoming! The Rebalancing Flow Class is taking my practice to a new level in the embrace of welcome and kindness. You won't regret a visit, and likely, like me, come back for more!

Shanti is truly one of the best places in Nelson. Joy is so knowledgeable about human anatomy and physiology, as well as being a very kind and lovely person. I am grateful for Joy and her warm presence in the studio and our community!

Shanti yoga is a sanctuary where everyone is equally welcome and truly deeply loved . Where you can heal your body and soul . Deepening the teachings every single day while respecting the time for the body to also adjust safely . Best of best in Nelson . Also very affordable for people with lower income . Lots of positivity and pure love in this old and beautifully renovated church.

No longer “Just here for the Savasana”.Finally an Instructor and a class that works for me! I’ve always struggled to find a yoga class that keeps me engaged and feeling optimistic about my progress. Joy ticks all the boxes while flawlessly weaving physiology lessons, funny anecdotes, and encouraging breath work into her classes.I’ve been going regularly (2 or 3 times/week) to the Rebalancing Yoga with Joy for the last 2 months and my body hasn’t felt this good in years. I’ve had chronically tight hips, bad back, sore knees, pinched nerves, shoulder tension, weak lungs, you name it- and this class has worked wonders for me.After only a couple weeks I’ve gained access to muscles that were completely locked up, I have a newfound flexibility and range, improved endurance, and a lung capacity my asthma didn’t know existed. It's cheaper than Physio, Chiro, or a massage! Despite being dragged through a pandemic, Joy has kept her classes affordable and accessible with passes that keep you accountable to your health, and a variety of classes to accommodate any schedule. Yay!I’m so grateful to have stumbled into her gorgeous and welcoming studio. I cannot thank her enough.Go get some Joy in your life <3

I had such a terrible experience at this studio. I would not recommend. I never felt so pressured to buy a pass. Joy (the owner) didn’t tell me pass expired until after I took the class, forcing me to buy another one to square up when I wasn’t planning on returning to the studio. I heard that happen to quite a few people while I was there so be sure to check on your passes. She also pressures you to use the ones you have more to help out the studio which just felt awkward. I would have been more inclined to buy another pass if she wasn’t such a controlling teacher. I’ve also heard a few teachers mention she was very hard to work with, definitely wouldn’t recommend this studio. Given yoga is about doing what feels good in your body, it felt weird that she kept telling me to stop doing certain movements even though I know I was doing them safety.

I travelled to Nelson a couple of weeks ago and decided to do a yoga class. After a google search, I found Shanti Yoga, or maybe it found me?! What a beautiful studio! Joy, the owner and instructor, was so welcoming and inviting. She made me feel at ease immediately. I went to one of her rebalancing classes and Joy was great in providing verbal cues, demonstrating poses and providing individual tips to students as she walked around. I am relatively new to yoga and was a bit hesitant to go to a studio I was not familiar with, but I am sure glad I did! I highly recommend Shanti Yoga!!! Can't wait to return to Nelson in the future and I will be sure to hit up some yoga classes at Shanti when I do!!!!

I don’t think I’ll be able to summarize in one review how amazing Shanti is, and how big Joy is in my life. I have a deep gratitude for yoga, this place, and for Joy. When I love something, I have a hard time containing it. The way I describe her classes, are that they are not like most yoga classes people attend, they are incredibly therapeutic, and she focuses so much on the breath and the inner core. My guru here in Nelson ♥️

We've been visiting Nelson for the winter and the Warm Flow yoga with Joy has been one of my many highlights! Shanti is a really diverse and welcoming community so I felt right at home, and safe given Joy's extensive understanding of anatomy. So much learning, presented in lovely little vignettes and so much progress, strengthening my Whitewater core! That's with a capital W as opposed to whitewater paddling - which I'm sure I could tackle now too! Thanks so much Joy - 'hope to make it back next year!

I've been around the world practicing yoga and Shanti is world class! The classes are perfectly paced and bring in decades of experience and knowledge so that you are getting the safest and most aligned practice for your body. This studio has a magnificent atmosphere and the owner is a wonderful woman who cares about every single student.

The wonderful team at Shanti Yoga make you feel as though you're family coming though the door every time. Warm and genuine, the teachers pay close, loving attention to their students needs and are happy to make accommodations for all abilities. A converted heritage church, the studio features stunning high ceilings and beautiful wood floors, as well as a new infrared hot studio in the lower area. Joy in particular has revolutionized my posture and pain management with her incredible knowledge about the human body in the Rebalancing class. I will admit there have been a few times I've shed a tear while finishing up class with her, just from the sheer love she emanates to her students! This is a very special place of healing, and we are lucky to have it here in Nelson.
