The Derby Bar and Grill
The worst. Arrived at 4pm and were told the kitchen was closed. Their hours are until 5. Was told they are a betting establishment not a restaurant. Asked for a manager. Was told they didn’t have one. Wondering if they can even operate as a betting establishment with a kitchen that is closed?

Really relaxed and welcoming environment. The staff were super friendly and the chef came to our table multiple times to check in on the meal. They couldn't do enough to keep our kids happy with colouring paper, crayons and they have a very reasonable $7 kids menu. The food is restaurant quality at pub food prices and their homemade blueberry pie was awesome! The decor and memorabilia are spot on and complement the array of TVs showing horse racing really well. A must visit for racing folk and non horse people alike!

Our friend who lives close by recently went on a weekday and suggested we have lunch here on a Saturday. It’s interesting that it’s a eat, drink and betting establishment. Horse racing/derby theme throughout. Monitors are tuned to horse racing, with betting machines inside. Most patrons are derby fans and every Saturday they hold a Handicapping Contest starting at noon so more than half the seating is reserved for that.Service was great, food was good and reasonably priced but betting fans can be very enthusiastic and noisy, so be prepared for that. We had no choice but to be seated by a large group this day (Saturday). The Caesar Chicken Wrap ($16) and Chicken Clubhouse ($16) had nice chunky pieces of chicken (see pics). The Mushroom Swiss Burger ($19) was good but fries were limp and a little oily. All sandwiches, wraps and burgers come with soup or fries.Website says minors are welcome when accompanied by an adult until 10 pm but they’re only open until 5pm some days, earlier others. There was swearing given the clientele so be prepared for that also.Suggest going on a weekday may be more suitable with minors. There is parking in front and along one side.Located very close to the Canada/USA Pacific aka Douglas Border Crossing at 0 Ave. Surrey.

Driven by this bar and grill numerous times taking the back way to Abbotsford avoiding busy 16 Ave. We had the BLT, Clubhouse and Beef Dip (the grilled onions and mushrooms are worth adding). Pricing was reasonable, service excellent (thank you Nicole). We split the beef dip and the cook separated our order and put on 2 plates. We appreciated that little bit extra service.Recommend holding off eating if travelling either to the States (Pacific Border crossing) or the back way to Abbotsford (or going to Surrey from Abbotsford or points east to west) and stop by this hidden treasure. Families are welcome. Please note they do have unusual service hours.

Suprising nice pub. The food is top notch. My potatoes were cooked to perfection and the salmon benny I had was 100% spot on.Service was 110% friendly and timely. Honestly this place is 20 min from my house and I’m tempted to go there now for breakfast.1 thing I would say is my wife Monte Cristo was cooked perfectly BUT was really bland. It was not bad but it just felt like I needed something more for flavor. The pancake was not like IHOP but more like something your grandma would have made. Fluffy but yet heavy. Flavor was good and it was very filling.

Changes to the menu made for disappointment at our table. Service was wonderful, don’t get me wrong! I’m not a chicken tenders person but this place had THE BEST in house buttermilk tenders I’ve ever had! 4-5 pieces with a bed of fries. Now I get 3 pieces that’s fit for a kids meal, and definitely not the same tenders as before :( just basic ones you find in the frozen isle.

We had a fabulous breakfast here! We don't really follow horse racing but really enjoyed our meal here. Generous portions, reasonable prices, fresh food, and clean surrounding! Plus friendly staff make this pub worth the drive.
