Treats indigenous people unfairly. Which is unfortunate because indigenous people make up most of their revenue in this city. Will never shop at this location again and will be spreading the word about what happened to Melvin Sapp at this store.

Do better and take classes on racism. My father did not deserve this at all! Nobody does!

Giant Tiger
March 8, 2023 just after 8pm in North Battleford, SK, my visibly Indigenous uncle walked into the Giant Tiger to do some shopping after work, which was something of a routine for him. Upon entering the store, a non-Indigenous Giant Tiger employee at the front counter asked if she could help him. He told her he was just picking up a few things and the employee told him that they were closed. He checked the time, knowing that the store was open until 9pm and it was only 8:15pm. He insisted that he only needed a few things and would be fast, but the employee said again that they were already closing. Confused, my uncle turned around and left the store, went to his car and used his cell phone to call the store's phone number. Two employees over the phone said that the store was open until 9pm, and my uncle witnessed several customers continuing to enter the store after he was denied entry because “they were closing”. Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission does not deem this race-based discrimination, but when you grow up Indigenous and with the lived-experiences of an Indigenous person you know the reason he was denied entry into a business. This type of thing happens far too often, visibly Indigenous people are constantly discriminated against in the most subtle of ways. Experiences like this are always dismissed as not racial, but we know they are because we live it every single day. It’s dehumanizing and humiliating to be treated in this manner, especially in the place where you grew up. My uncle has worked at a business in North Battleford as a maintenance person for 25 years and leads a sober, quiet life. Even if he didn’t, he would still not be deserving of such treatment - the only crime he committed was being Indigenous. He deserves acknowledgement of his distressing ordeal, a written apology from the employee, and disciplinary action that will ensure this does not happen to another Indigenous customer at this location, or any other Giant Tiger location.

A surprising place to find some cute clothes, though I can only talk for the women's clothes. This giant Tiger specifically is quite small compared to most and definitely does not have as much as them but it's still pretty good. I won't be assuming they will have everything I expect from regular giant tigers but definitely have the low prices like the others.

A nice store. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they had a decent selection. I did manage to find some big and tall clothes so that was good.

It is so great to have a store downtown that has everything, especially groceries. It is nice to not have to go out to the big stores when you just need to pick up a few things. The store is clean, well organized, and well stocked. The staff there are very friendly and helpful and the prices are good.

Poor treatment toward indigenous groups. Old ingenious man doing some last minute shopping and was told to leave because they're were closed at 8:15" but actually closed at 9. All the while letting other people continue to shop. Fire the employee for treating him so poorly. Shameful."
