Mistaken Point is a must visit location for any paleontology or geology enthusiast. The fossils are amazing. Make sure you book ahead as places are limited to around 24 per day in two 12 person groups.

This was a fantastic experience! Great tour guides/interpreters who were very knowledgeable and they also entertained us with local history and stories as well as taught us all about the land we hiked through. The fossils were astounding and we were greeted by a humpback whale when viewing the site. Count on 4 hours minimum. Highly recommend!!

A must for visitors interested in geology. Amazing chance to see very precious 565 million years old fossils. The tour is about 4 hours, have to walk 4 km (?) towards the coast and actually walk on the big flat slanting rock to see ( and touch ) the different fossils. Absolutely amazing. The tour operates at 10.30 and 12.30, costs $23 each. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. The entire tour is very enjoyable.

If you're into fossils over 250 million years old, go! The hike in isn't difficult at all; comfortable shoes and a windbreaker are a must.

This is a must see for many visiting Newfoundland. A UNSECO world heritage site, you can easily see a range of fossils dating back some 565 million years ago! This site represents the oldest known assemblages of large fossils anywhere in the world! It's in a very isolated area of the Province, and there's a bit of a hike (3km one way) to get to the fossil site, but it is well worth the effort.

Our visit to Mistaken Point UNESCO World Heritage Site was the highlight of our visit to Newfoundland! The Edge of Avalon Interpretive Centre’s film presentation provided a very informative overview before we set off on our 30 minute drive to the trailhead. With our fantastic guides Edwina and Mathieu, we enjoyed our 3 1/2 hour guided hike, 6 km in and out to the fossil site through the beautiful wilderness reserve. As we made our way over spongy lichen, patched with rock, we came across carpets of tiny wild berries that we were not familiar with as they only grow in Newfoundland and Labrador's barrens and coastal headlands. The actual fossil site is a massive slate of rock which they let us walk on, but we needed to remove our footwear and wear the extra thick socks that we brought with us. The Reserve is the best place in the world where you can view a 565-million-year-old sea floor that accurately preserves the ecology of these ancient deep sea communities. The experience of walking on these bedding planes, to see and touch the many different fossils while surrounded by spectacular ocean scenery with dramatic cliffs and crashing waves below was a fantastic experience!

This was an absolute gem of a tour. Cynthia and Tim shared a lot of local knowledge that was so very interesting, not to mention about the site itself. The hike is through some moderate hills so some persons with mobility challenges would have difficulty. Not enough can be said about the people that are there to take you to this site and how they also help preserve it. I think total length of the hike was 3.5 hours(?) I didn't really keep track because I planned my trip around this tour and enjoyed every minute!

Fascinating for anyone who likes pre-historic times. Guides are great: as we went on the trail leading to the fossil site, they pointed out interesting vegetation that is specific to the area, animals (foxes, seal), answered all the questions about local traditions and lifestyle. At the actual site again the explanation of fossil types was great. Keep in mind that they only take small groups (meaning book in advance), you need good hiking shoes and extra pair of socks in case of rain, because you have to wear socks only to walk over the fossils, no shoes allowed.

Participated in the guided tour of the fossil cliffs. Wonderful tour and great guides. Coolest part was taking off your shoes to walk on the fossils. Would absolutely do this again!
