Strathcona Park
Another large park in Strathcona. This one has several fields, a couple tennis courts, a playground, a skate park, washroom with homeless people, and a covered area. There is also a community garden on the west side. This unique park offers much to its visitors, from skatepark and climbing wall (both added during park restorations in 2004), to community gardens and sports fields. The heart of the park is a charming place to rest or play, while the community gardens and pathways that line the perimeter make for a pleasant stroll.Originally known as False Creek Park (it was situated on what was called False Creek Flats) this site had been the city dump whose horrible smell called for its close in 1939. It was covered in with fill from city owned lots in the Hastings East area. The park was finally seeded in 1947 with drainage, trees and shrubs following the next year.In 1976 a link was created between False Creek Park and MacLean Park – it was named Strathcona Linear Park and False Creek Park was changed to Strathcona Park, named for the surrounding neighbourhood. The Strathcona neighbourhood takes its name from Lord Strathcona, formerly Sir Donald A. Smith, who drove the last spike completing the first transcontinental railway at Craigellachie, British Columbia. He later became Canadian High Commissioner in London.

Amenities=Two public gardens.Maybe more depending on how you quantify gardens, it could be in the thousands if you count species, genus, other crapperjax and razmatazz. The bathrooms are open sometimes.A skate park with lots of low options, a hip, reasonable rails, transitions, sloped box.Which is adjacent to a quantity of basketballness, balls are not provided, bring your own.Slightly further south you will find a gazebo like structure with seating for up to 69 if you try hard enough. An ample playground including climbing, sliding and swinging aparatus for several ages. Some racket fuzz ball arenas will great you with the sarcastic pantamime of Julius Caesar declaring the demise of a gladiator with the tip of his thumb nail.If you like breaking your sternum tall bike jousting on acid, this might just be the park for you.Bring your dogs.

Good park to go with your dog for on or off leash activities - there is a large, not fully fenced, off leash area and an even larger on-leash area. However - not many visitors care about the on-leash areas and just let their dog(s) go where they will. There is a fountain for people that you can fill up a water bowl at as well.

This city of Vancouver park is really beautiful. Vast open spaces and a welcoming trail alog the southwest corner that hosts plum, kiwi, apple trees. The park holds eents through out the year, including aboriginal drum ceremonies and barbaques sponsored by various non profit societies. There is wheel chair parking free around the park and especially across from the animal shelter attge west end. Public washrooms available and are well kept teyare gender friendly as well. Pets are welcoe and there is kids playground with jungle gym. This park has skate boarding and a roller skate area that is safe.the trails are not accessable by wheelchair but are by mobile devices which are allowed. This park is one place you can go and enjoy the day and will have you looking forward to the next visit. There is no fee to enter.

Strathcona Park
What a lovely park. It's so large with lots of places to walk your dog, watch a soccer game or just chill and read your book on a nice day. There is a huge community garden attached to that pretty much surrounding the entire park.On any weekend there is always family BBQ's and picnics going on in the park. There really is no place to sit, but most people seem to just bring their own chairs and wheel in the cooker.

Plenty of things to do at this big greenspace: baseball diamonds (some under repair), basketball hoops, skate park area, kids playground, toddler swings, rope climbing structure, rock climbing feature for kids, a natural area with great old growth tree stumps, and a community garden with fruit trees. Enjoyed exploring the park with our dog!

I helped rebuild this park with a team of people after the homeless took it over it many years ago and was part of the re-introduction to the community. I've always loved coming here and sitting into the great big oak trees at the East end at least I think they're oak trees.... There are pathways to the Garden in the back and I have to say during the Spring and early summer it smells fantastic with the flowers in there.
