Cité Parkway Retirement Residence
After walking in the front entrance, my first impressions of this residence was one of calm and serenity as you are greeted with a warm organic décor and friendly reception area. Other residences that we visited had that sterile contemporary look and feel of stainless steel everywhere, not a very homey look or feel.I came to visit with my mother and we were greeted by Lucie (Lifestyle Director) who took us for a tour of their facilities. We saw the dining area, the beautiful indoor pool, the cinema, the chapel, the Bistro, the hair salon and so many other amenities as well as 4 rooms. All services and costs were explained to us and we never felt pressured into signing up. We came back at a later date and signed the rental agreement. The entire process was stress-free and to this day, everything that was said and promised has been delivered. I really have no complaints to convey and I've told Lucie as much and even jokingly mentioned that I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop but if it did, I believe that Lucie would do everything in her power to resolve the issue(s) to our satisfaction. Lucie informed us that should, in the unfortunate event of an issue with staff, tell her about it so that the proper corrective measures could be taken to prevent further repeats of said events.I wanted to share a positive experience that my mother had when she took a fall in her bathroom at the residence and pushed her pendant button and help arrived within 5 or 6 minutes. I believe that the PSW went above and beyond and provided value added service. My mom badly soiled herself as a result of not getting to the bathroom in time but the PSW arrived, comforted my mother and made sure that she did not feel embarrassed, she removed the soiled clothing and helped my mother clean herself up and even had those soiled clothes cleaned and returned to my mother even though laundry is the resident's responsibility. The residence has strict rules in place to ensure the residents health and safety but not at the cost of independent living and freedom. I'm happy to leave my mother in such caring hands and I know that my mother's health and safety are in good hands.Keep up the good workUPDATEUnfortunately, I feel that a negative update is now required since my original positive review mentioned above, only 14 months ago. I joked, in my positive review mentioned above, that I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and now it has.The staff turn-over rate is high, both in the management and employee staff and who knows why but it doesn't leave me with a good feeling. I've recently expressed a couple of concerns, to the CARE unit, which fell on deaf ears and even after my written requests to rectify and/or resolve my issues/concerns, nothing was done. It sounds like they are laughing at us.AVOID this retirement residence, if at all possible. There are probably better caring retirement residences around. It might also be time for our family to consider our options.

As a personal carer and Volunteer I have visited a few different residences in the city, City Parkway has been a wonderful place to visit my friend. From the moment you walk in the front door and are greeted by Hassna {also known as Happy} you know you are in a warm comfortable place surrounded by people who care. She is the heart of the building and keeps everything ticking and everyone smiling it is very obvious that the residents love her...The Director - Mark likes to say his door is always open ! and it actually is! He always manages to find a solution to any problems the residents may have.Joey - The caretaker does a wonderful job keeping this beautiful building running and is always willing to help whenever he can.Sofie - the kitchen assistant is wonderful at keeping the dining room supplied and the guests happy and always has a pleasant smile.Nicole the Director of Nursing Care does an amazing job of keeping the nursing staff informed of all the residents medical needs she ensures that the whole staff knows what the resident requires and is great if you just need and ear to listen. This amazing team work hard everyday in the best interests of all the residents and strive to make sure its not just a seniors residence its Home....

I went to visit Cité Parkway Residence with my mother 5 months ago and we were impress at the entrance with the welcome we received from the reception and then by Lucie (Lifestyle director).Lucie invited us in her office to discuss my parents needs and then we went for a tour of all facilities and visited 3 rooms. My mother enjoyed the atmosphere in the building, very nice exterior and interior, clean and warm welcoming from all staff. My parents have lived at The Cité Parkway Residence since June 2022, Lucie (Lifestyle director) is very nice and very present and helpful at all time, she is an amazing person and she always has a smile. My parents had a wonderful welcoming from all the staff, from the health department, to reception, dining room, activities etc. This home has lots to offer and the staff is available for all needs and concern.I would definitely recommend this Residence

My mother has been living at Cite Parkway for several years now and is happy with the service. She is especially pleased with the care during COVID-19 and feels very safe. While there may have been issues with the quality of the food in the past it has greatly improved with the new chef and my mother has enjoyed every meal since. Cite Parkway surpasses other retirement home that I have been to, reception and staff are very friendly.

JANUARY, 2021 - 1st review:Since moving my 92 year old mother from the hospital to one of the memory care units at Cite Parkway, this home has proven to be exactly the type of home I had hoped to find for her. From the moment she walked into the lobby on admission day, the front receptionist and the lifestyle director were expecting her and she was given a most wonderful warm welcome. She was even given a welcome card & a plant for her room. Once in her room, I was invited to a complementary lunch as her guest. Lunch consisted of a vegetable soup, followed by a perfectly cooked salmon steak with asparagus & rice and then a large piece of chocolate/cherry cake for desert. As my mother’s “essential caregiver” during the COVID pandemic, I have been visiting her daily and have had first hand experience on how friendly & caring all PSWs & nurses have been towards her.In terms of the meals, they have been excellent! My understanding is that a new chef was recently hired & I cannot say enough about the wide variety of beautifully presented meals that have all been equally nutritious and delicious. My mother has enjoyed every meal served! Finally, since her admission to Cite Parkway I have seen my mother start to blossom from the warmth of the care she is receiving!!Cite Parkway & its most caring staff have created a true home environment for my mother & based on our experience, I would most definitely recommend Cite Parkway.MARCH, 2021 - 2nd review:A note about last night’s amazing supper! When my mother’s supper tray arrived to her room last night, she told me she wasn’t very hungry... I told her she didn’t have to eat everything and to just eat what she could.Well, with each bite she kept making the “mmm…” sound and kept saying how wonderful everything was! She polished everything off and raved about how good her supper had been. The beef tenderloin was just as she likes it - medium rare, the scalloped potatoes were wonderful, the asparagus al Dante & the cheese cake was so fresh!! She used to cook gourmet meals at home when I was growing up and food was always important in our house, so a compliment from her means a lot!A big THANK YOU to Markus, the wonderful chef at Cite Parkway & all the kitchen staff, what you do is so very important and so very appreciated!

This home advertises assisted living, but this is not accurate. My Dad was completely bed bound and I paid extra for 2 person assist, but he very seldom got up. It seems you have to get up only at the times chosen by the care workers or you stay in bed. Every client is given a button, but quite often it was on the window sill and his last day it wasn’t even in the room. Also, it was often difficult to find a care worker. I know there is a shortage of these workers, but then don’t accept clients with these needs.

After visiting a few places, I moved my parents here. Nice new building and they did a great job selling the place. Empty promises.Things were bad from the start. My parents were on a full care floor. They didn't often have the same PSWs. They clearly did not read the care plans and did not understood my parent's needs. My dad was to be in a wheelchair and when I'd arrive sometimes, he was walking down the hall with a staff member beside him, so they clearly had no idea of his care plan. They told me how hard it was to hire PSWs and when they called in sick, they'd have to go to an agency to have someone come in last-minute.I caught 1 PSW yelling at my Mom because she was trying to help my Dad get dressed. She also threatened to take my Dad with dementia back to his room so he could sit there alone if he didn't eat supper which made my mother cry. I complained and she was removed from the floor, but they still kept her on staff. It would take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours for a PSW to respond after ringing the call bell, sometimes longer.I spoke with family of other people on that floor who moved their loved ones out of there. One woman arrived and her father had been lying in his own filth. She cleaned him and didn't say anything on purpose. It was 4 hours before someone came to check on him.My mom fell and broke her wrist, then my dad fell and cracked his head and died and the few days later my mom fell and broke her hip. I did not let her return there and got her out of there as quickly as I could. I'm not saying that it was their fault that my father fell, but in some ways it was. My dad had a bed alarm on his bed which would send an alarm to the PSWs' personal devices - they were supposed to come running when he got out of bed, and they did not. I was not informed until two days later that he fell, at which point he was unconscious, yet I was told to come quickly. What a joke.A couple of days after my father passed, I showed up at 5pm. The front desk called up to the third floor. I overheard them tell the staff that I was coming up and to hurry. I understand why, because my mom was still in bed in her pyjamas and they were cleaning her up. She had had nothing to eat that day and was extremely weak and almost passed out when I was standing with her.Short staffed, uncaring, dangerous, in our personal experience.I sincerely would not send my dog live there.Funny, where my mother moved to, they are never short of PSW's, they are fairly compensated, treated well & there are never any issues.

We have been impressed by the care offered to our parents at Cite Parkway. After visiting a dozen residences, our mother chose this one because the environment was quiet and inviting. The care provided to our father in the last months of his life was tender and kind, and we are very grateful to the support workers, staff and nurses who made his passing as comfortable as it could be. Now as our mother is grieving, they are helping her (and us) in this process. He was much more outgoing than she is, and she finds fault with many things (which is stressful) but our observation is that everyone is doing the best they can to respect both her wishes and her needs. She is constantly assured that she is safe and cared for and it is heartwarming to watch her melt into their many hugs. They try to engage her in various activities, and she enjoys the food. We have struggled to find the perfect setting for her, even here, and yet the staff have gone to extraordinary effort to find the room that will suit her best, moving her twice. Quite honestly, we would be lost without them and appreciate all they do. There are some areas--like the public washrooms on the care floors--that could consistently use more attention but overall we are comfortable with what we have observed.

My Mother has been living at the Cite Parkway Residence on a memory care floor for the past 2 years. She enjoys her meals and the many activities on her floor, even through the pandemic have kept her spirits up. The staff is friendly , the front desk staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I recommend this home to others

This place has been dangerous to place my elder in the last weeks. Their worker do not seem to be trained properly and she will not be able to help elders properly if the person has a disability. To give you more information, my grandmother is placed there and we are paying for assistance as she is currently in a wheelchair unable to walk by herself. She is supposed to be assisted by a worker at all times when getting help to use the washroom or any type of big movement. The worker will not pay attention to her as she will be on her cellphone, which we have noticed while visiting her, and my grandmother has fallen almost every week since she (the assistant/worker) is there to help her. For exemple, the worker is supposed to stay by her side while she is brushing her teeth but has left the room and she has fallen because there was no one to help her keep her balance. Because of the falls, that happens when the worker is there, she has broken her finger and has bruised her face and body. The management did not seem to follow up after these events are happening as my grandmother has been falling again during the time the worker was near her (she fell 3 times in three weeks) and my uncle did demonstrate concerns regarding the falls. Also, they had not been washing her for a week because of her broken hand which is not even in a real cast.At this point, we are scared for her health because of the incapacity of the worker to assister her properly (not allowing her to fall) and are looking to move her somewhere else.
