Introducing Fast Food to CanadaA&W was Canada’s first hamburger quick service restaurant and remains one of its best known. The company began operations in Winnipeg, opening its first freestanding drive-in restaurant in 1956. By 1966, A&W Food Services had opened over 200 drive-in restaurants and was a hit with baby boomers and their families.In 1972, A&W Food Services was acquired by Unilever Canada Limited. Since that time, A&W has always been owned and operated in Canada independently from A&W operations in the United States.In 1995, the company's then current senior management team along with other investors acquired A&W Food Services in a management buy-out of the A&W business from Unilever Canada Limited. At that time, A&W Food Services owned and operated 162 hamburger quick service retaurants and franchised a further 308 restaurants.The Leader in the Shopping Centre SegmentDuring the 1980s, A&W Food Services became the first hamburger quick service restaurant chain to open restaurants in shopping centres. Today, it is the dominant operator in this segment with approximately 195 restaurants.Strategic Focus on FranchisingThe 1990s brought continued growth and change to A&W as the company aggressively expanded its freestanding restaurants in Western Canada.In 1996, a strategic decision was made to focus on franchising the business. Over an 18 month period, 129 corporately-owned restaurants were sold and franchised and 26 restaurants were closed.Launch of the A&W Revenue Royalties Income FundIn February, 2002 the A&W Revenue Royalties Income Fund was created.Strategic RenewalFood Services is committed to ongoing strategic renewal of its business. This involves re-evaluating the longer term strategy for the business every three to five years. In 2018, Food Services undertook a renewal of the strategy for the A&W business. At the core of the strategy is the mission “to be loved for our natural ingredients, great taste, convenience, and for doing what’s right, making A&W the #1 choice for millennial burger lovers”. The strategy has six key strategic thrusts:harnessing the power of natural ingredients;dramatically improving A&W’s operating standards;capturing guest visits and growing restaurant profit;becoming more and more convenient;extending and strengthening the organization’s CLIMATE; andbeing most loved.

Ordered a teen burger and onion rings and two apple pies in the drive thru, what I gotWas a lettuce wrapped double burger extra pickles no cheese not edible atrocity amd two orders of onion rings no pies we live far away so the disappointment is real $18

I went to the drive-thru window and waited 15 minutes. They refused my money cause a corner of my bill was missing serial number intact. The lady told me to go elsewhere….what customer service?

Great little A&W in beautiful mid town Mission. This A&W hosts a Friday Night Car show every Fri. Evening in the summer. Great way to come on down for a chilled glass of Root Beer and some munchies! There's usually 20 or 30 vehicles and some gold time rock and roll music playing. A really nice way to relax!

Wouldn't even accept a valid coupon. Tried selling same meal for considerably moreHorrible service and bad business practices.

I don’t understand how hard it is for a&w to just do there job like for real I went threw drivethru 3 different times because they can’t just simply give me my proper order I didn’t get 2 chicken wraps and it’s supposed to come with sauce and I don’t get any it’s basically dry and I didn’t get my oinion rings so I had to go back through. My food was also cold honestly not worth going back and I waited for such a long time and there was no one even around maybe hire more people because that’s kinda ridiculous

Great place to gather and enjoy a burger, onion rings and Root beer prepared by a great team who works hard to keep the place safe and clean.Their coupons make it very affordable to eat there every day.

This is an A&W with exceptional workers. There’s staff on the floor clearing and wiping tables, and the speed of the food coming out was wild, by the time I was done paying my food was already being put on the tray. Honestly made my feel my $30 was worth it. (I ordered a kids meal w/ onion rings, 2 bacon ranch wraps in a combo with root beer and fries as well as a baby burger w/cheese and added lettuce, mayo. mustard and pickles.)

Awesome service by NICK, who was very calm and knew everything that we had a question or concern about and didn't just say a no, directly to our request.The service was pretty quick and excellent overall.The taste was great as always.
