The open space is good for bringing well behaved dogs to play fetch. However, HRM has removed the garbage bins from the parking lot and there is nowhere to put doggie bags, so people leave that and other garbage all over the grass and surrounding the parking lot.The parking lot itself is very poorly maintained, lots of huge holes. There is an incorrectly covered manhole in the parking area that is only covered with a metal plate, and it smells of sewage very often.

This is a great public space for various events. We most recently went there for the kite festival, which was so much fun. The area is easily accessible and the general public uses it on a regular basis for their daily leisure. It is connected to Citadel Hill and is free to use.

The Atlantic Kite Festivals happens at Garrison Grounds during the summer and it’s so cool! I got to see lots of kites flying around there. The event is well organized. You can find food trucks and you can also rent a kite for $25-$35.

The entire Citadel complex is a FANTASTIC feature of the Halifax area: lots and lots of space to stretch out and enjoy life, right in the heart of Downtown Halifax. You can relax, play games or fly kites on the well-maintained grass and have a delightfully large area of green to be alone in, or with your friends: the total square footage is QUITE extensive!! Hosts some pretty great events as well, from time to time. Halifax is exceptionally fortunate to have such a variety of green spaces" right in the city proper
