About 2 months ago my boyfriend's sister started fostering a kitten from this shelter that had been found stray. We met her, absolutely fell in love, and applied for her almost immediately and were approved for adoption and assured that she was reserved for us specifically. She was very small at the time so we had to wait a considerable length of time before she was big enough to be spayed. She went to a different foster a few weeks ago to be socialized with other cats. We were expecting to bring her home sometime this week. With her being healthy and reserved for us we felt comfortable purchasing everything one might need for a new kitten and we excitedly set everything up for her. We then recieved an email 2 days ago informing us that she had been adopted out to her new foster as they get first pick. Normally I would have no issue with a foster having first pick, but we reserved her 2 months ago, before she even went to the new foster, and were assured she was ours. We had no forewarning of this possibility. We are heartbroken that she will not be part of our family.

Took my two fur babies to the vet today for their annual shots. Four years after fostering and then adopting them I have to let everyone know that every vet who meets my two kitties LOVE them. Thank you Rusty and everyone there who take care of all the animals and brought these two into my life!

My son Michael and his wife Rebecca gave me Teddy as a xmas gift last year. Most lovable dog. The staff there are very nice and friendly gave me all the information I needed to bring him home. They supplied toys food and any other necessity for him. They took great care of Teddy. As you can see in the photo he is very happy and healthy and comfortable.

Ladies at the desk were great. Not a ton of selection which is great. We saw a cat online but had been adopted previous day. Wish it was updated more. We came home with a new family member.

Place has gone down hill.very poorly run. I had a couple cats that were left behind in a apartment building. They were supposed to be picked up after a couple days. Never where and ended having them for 6 months. Called south Burlington humane society they scheduled a appointment and took them within a week.

Great place! They have fairly large walk-in cat enclosures, and you can easily visit with each cat to see his/her personality and determine if you're a good fit. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they can tell you a lot about which cats will do best with other pets, which ones will be happiest as only pets, etc. My husband and I adopted our cat here about half a year ago. He's sweet, cuddly, and very well-behaved, and we just adore him!

This place used to be awful with terrible conditions for cats. Since it’s been redone in the last couple years it looks awesome! The staff are friendly and genuine. They don’t make you jump through too many hoops like some other animal rescues. It’s easy to volunteer or visit the animals. I just wish they had more dogs. 2 at a time (which are usually just pit bulls) makes it hard to find a dog that’s right for you when you’re looking to adopt.

Not only did I leave with a simply adorable, affectionate cat, but I was also equipped with toys and feeding bowls and a little tower for claw and scratch boards, and food, both solid and moist and I'm just amazed at how generous and kind and thoughtful these people are.

We got our wonderful boys from this facility after visiting the chittenden county facility several times. If you're considering adopting an animal, I HIGHLY recommend THIS facility. All of the cats were so affectionate and appreciative of attention and you are welcome to enter their cages and spend time with them. PLEASE understand how WOEFULLY understaffed they are. They do their very best but can only do so much with their limited resources. If you can't adopt, please consider donating!
