Slegg Building Materials

I am a retired residential contractor from another city and always want to shop local... I do not usually do reviews either....But. after my experience yesterday I am writing one!This will be my 1st and last time at the Cumberland store given the poor service I received yesterday from Paul T at the lumber order desk. I had ordered material for a 3 ply 2 x 10 deck beam. I ended up making two separate trips to the yard for material they did not have. The yard staff pointed me to empty spots in the yard each time. So I had to return to the desk two times to deal with Paul to make changes to the invoice and he was not exactly helpful. I was going to leave with the Simpson tie material and fasteners. But as a matter of principal I attended the order desk and asked him to refund the purchase and asked for a full refund. To date I have also had a similar experience and poor service from the Comox store as well.The ordering process is not exactly a smooth process, this wasted about 40 minutes of my day!!!Do not ask to contact me for further information. Very friendly and helpful.

Peter M is incredibly efficient, helpful and all around excellent at his job. From initial interest in a variety of outdoor kits, he helped us easily and efficiently arrange an order, delivery and even recovered extra pieces that were missing or damaged after delivery. We really appreciate him and many other Slegg team members who are friendly and always willing to help or answer questions.

poor customer service, I guess they don't get paid enough to care.

Spent 15 min on the phone speaking with a lady who could not tell me whether they had 1x10 fascia boards on stock or not. She put me on hold 2 times. Eventually, she figured out they don't have any despite the fact that the Slegg store in Comox told me the Cumberland store do have some in stock.

I want to like shopping at a smaller, local building store, but every time I shop here, I have received appalling customer service. The customer service desk looks at you like your nuts for even being in the store, let alone asking a question. I was told they didn't have a product (very rudely) when I showed a picture of it from another location, then proceeded to go down another aisle, and wouldn't you know, there's the product I was looking for. It doesn't take too much time or effort to help a customer when they specifically ask you a question, that is literally you're role when working in the customer service department.

Amazing facility and selection. I’ve shopped there three times: The yard staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Each time I’ve gone I was shocked by the grumpy And unresponsive inside staff..... not so friendly. They are all staring into computer screens and when you approach they barely look up at you. Once you have their attention you get the feeling that you’re burdening them. Don’t expect anyone to ask “can I help you?”. If you know what you want it’s a good place to go.... not so much for the DIY people.

Was there during the BC heatwave yesterday looking for a fan.At first, we only found one small fan and went to buy it, but, as we were talking with the cashier, she mentioned they had much, much bigger fans (they sound like wind tunnels) and waved her hand towards it! We hadn't even realized they were there!She convinced us to buy them, and was incredibly kind, even when her machine had some issues.All in all, a great experience.

There is a huge issue with communication at this store. Front staff can't relay info properly to yard staff, who then wander around confused. Front staff can't communicate with customers in person or over the phone. I have never dealt with such confusion. 5 trips, many phone calls here over the last 3 weeks trying to get 1 item sorted. Save yourself major headaches and shop elsewhere.

Great staff.Make sure you check prices with other suppliers. Some of the lumber is 50% higher than HDepot, Rona, Lowes or just about any other supplier. Slegg isnt interested in retail they are serving the commercial construction customer with a little better pricing but us small guys are getting the shaft, if we are blindly buying there.Fact!
