Shima Karate School
My daughter has been going to karate for a little over four years now during that time she has been taught well, very structured course and lots of group extra activities. The team at Shima has also prepared her with 1on 1 and weekend training for events like the Worlds of Karate in Richmond B.C. and the BC Winter games in Fort St. John’s. She came home with medals in both events!

I feel so privileged to have my kids attend Karate in this fantastic institute. Where a little more space may do good, the services are highly professional. I love to watch my kids having so much learning in a fun environment while attending their classes with Sensi Brenda and Sensi Richard. Most distinguishing Sensi Kurt whose vigilant eyes can't spare any detail, his management skills are accountable, decisive & supportive. It proves his dedication to make Karate accessible for everyone. Highly recommend this place.

It's still the most AMAZING karate school on the island! We are so blessed to have our family as students at this prestigious dojo with such talented and award winning instructors it was the best decision we have ever made. It has shown our daughter discipline, respect, compassion, kindness, and most importantly, that violence should not be met with more violence but with a controlled, clear level head when faced with a difficult situation and the ability to DEFEND & PROTECT herself without panicking. We are so grateful for all the instructors and owners of this incredible dojo. I plan on joining in as soon as I'm able so I can learn to protect myself as well!

Great place to learn karate that is fun and also competitive. My kids love it! You learn so much from karate, it builds confidence, teaches respect for others, helps you think on your feet when sparing and great for memory. The teachers are so friendly and helpful.

Shima Karate School
Shima Karate School is truly a hidden gem in the martial arts community. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, and they are able to effectively communicate their techniques to students of all levels. The training is challenging, but always fun and rewarding. The community at Shima is also top-notch - everyone is supportive and encouraging of one another. I highly recommend Shima Karate School to anyone looking to improve their martial arts skills or simply get in shape. Five stars!

This Karate school is amazing. The owners are super friendly with lots of positive energy just like the place itself. I was in this Karate dojo for 7-8 years and they have never disappointed me or my family. This dojo is very inclusive no matter who they are talking to as well as super strict with their rules. I think this is a very successful dojo that shows multiple good points that many Karate students are looking for. Probably the best Karate dojo on Vancouver Island.

My kids and I have been with Shima Karate for a year now. The atmosphere is great. The teachers are great and the Sensei is very patient with everyone. I would strongly recommend this school for anyone interested in pursuing one of the traditional martial arts.

Shima Karate School
Our son has been going here for years. He has not enjoyed many other sports but the team at Shima has kept him interested and asking to go to karate! They have helped develop his athletics and discipline and have been great for him. Thanks so much to Kurt and his team for all the years of great times.

Super welcoming, totally enjoy the classes that myself and my kids attend. Able to make up classes when necessary, worked their best to encourage students to continue classes thru online during Covid times. Able to accommodate students abilities and disabilities in the classes to allow individuals success and growth in Karate. Awesome instructors. Cant saý enough good about Shima Karate School. It's not a school...its family.

Great with kids! They are very patient kind but actually teach them and require them to prove their progress to get their belts too.
