BC Association of Clinical Counsellors

I am reviewing Jodi Strom, who is part of the BCACC. I contacted her three times, during a time I needed help. I called her twice, left a messages and an email. I have not received a response for five months and counting. This is the only time I have received no response from a mental health professional. Usually, with professionals, I always receive a simple, I am sorry

As one of the original members of BCACC (#17) I am very disappointed in the direction the executive has chosen in relation to future regulation.

If I could give this agency, particularly the person I was in correspondence with a 0 star, I would. I don't want to name anyone publicly as I don't want to shame anyone. I want this association to truly examine how their Registration Coordinators are corresponding with professionals.At first, I received no response from anyone at BCACC after multiple emails, calls, voicemails were sent over a period of several weeks. I wondered if anyone actually worked there.Finally, I was connected to a Coordinator. To say that my experience with her has been difficult would be an understatement. For a mental health association, I was met with high rigidity and zero flexibility for regulated mental health professionals from other Canadian provinces. There was complete disregard of Canadian Labour Mobility laws. No expedited or flexible streams for regulated professionals from other provinces.Let's be clear BCACC is NOT a regulatory body yet, but an association. And for them to be so unsupportive, rigid, and lack flexible streams or alternatives for professionals is frankly careless and discouraging for potential new members. This matter could have been handled much more supportively.Again, I would like to say the lady I was in correspondence with had a rude tone, was uncooperative, and unhelpful and my experience is primarily based on correspondence with her as well as what seems to be this association's general lack of support for professionals who may want to register with them.Thankfully, my registration experience with other associations has been more supportive and has worked out.

As an RCC I’ve always felt felt supported by the folks at the BCACC. I’m also very impressed by their efforts (and plan) to move toward regulation and all the work they’re doing for this.

I have always found the staff to be professional and helpful when engaging with me as member. I encourage counselling students under my supervision to register with the BCACC to access all the member benefits they offer and the advocacy they provide to the profession of counselling in BC.

Been an RCC for several years and I have found communication to be prompt and friendly, services are easy to use from a counsellor standpoint. Glad that in BC we will soon be regulated, thats a positive step forwards for sure. But whilst RCC was the professional association, it was great.
