Great experience with Afshin at the MFAA. The instructor was very encouraging for my Violin Lessons. The withdrawal process can be slightly confusing, so make sure you understand it well before registering.

I have the best cello teacher! He's always looking for solutions to musical hangups that adult learners may have (less flexible fingers, sight reading woes, etc.). I also like that he shows how to spot patterns in music to make learning easier! Those may just be par for the course, but truly, I appreciate the guidance! Also, this school has super supportive staff!! There are lots of perks and motivators for students to continue on their music journey. I also loved all the different ways the teachers and admin staff tried to engage their students while everyone was stuck at home during the height of the pandemic. Thanks for all that you do!!

In terms of the teachers, this would be a 5 star review. I took online flute lessons here for about two years, and both of my teachers were wonderful (as one of them quit). They were lively, knowledgable and passionate about music, helping my playing improve immensely. What's really questionable is the company itself. There is a policy where you must pay for a lesson even if you are unable to attend, even if you mention it in advance. Though I do understand this on a buisness standpoint, it really is inconvienient for the students. I do appreciate that they added on the minutes I missed onto my next few lessons, but if someone is - say, sick for a few weeks - it would be a complete waste of money. It is also important to note that solution is not possible for teachers on a tight schedule.May we discuss the mess that was the 2022 summer recital? It was very disorganized, the performances ending up an hour late. Both teachers and students had to sit around waiting most of the time. There was also no mention of how many people we were allowed to bring, meaning that it was extremely crowded (and some people had to stand!) Not to mention the room we were given to perform in. It was a small lecture hall with dead acoustics, and it might have been alright if we didn't have so little room to perform. Instead of utilizing the stage, students were playing directly in front of the front-row seats, leaving barely a metre of room between them and the audience. Additionally, we were not given any time to warm up beforehand, which is important in order to play the best we could. The performers just watched in the audience until it was their turn.I had shared a lot I did not like about the MFAA. Don't get me wrong - it does have its flaws, but the school itself isn't that bad. Customer service is extremely fast. You could text them and get get a response within minutes. The Musical Ladder Program is also a cute little thing to encourage students to practice, though I feel that it is geared towards the younger ones.Though I did my lessons online, I did have to go in person to rehearse for the recital. From my brief time there, I saw that the school itself is clean and tidy. There is a little waiting room at the front with activities children could do while waiting, which is a nice touch. The rooms, however... The lesson room I rehearsed with the pianist was tiny. Two walls were taken up by pianos, not leaving much room. This could be a problem for people concerned about COVID-19. There was an air purifier, though, which redeems them slightly. And I have not taken a look at the other rooms, so perhaps it is different. So, final thoughts about the Missisauga Fine Arts Academy? It isn't that bad. They encourage everyone to share their love of music, give opportunities to perform and are attentive to their customers. For someone first learning an instrument or just doing it as a hobby, this would be a good (yet pricey) choice. For people wanting to pursue music further, there are better options. However, I will always hold this place - no matter how flawed it is - as my first music school.

The MFAA is an amazing centre to learn and develop musical skills. The staff (including the teachers and administration) are all so friendly, positive, supportive and welcoming. The Academy offers a wide range of classes, and many opportunities for musical growth. Their kind gestures, accommodations, and flexibility makes the music learning a great experience. Definitely recommend!
