Britannia Shipyards National Historical Site is a treasure of stories, culture and history. The well preserved Murakami House takes you into the lives of Otokichi and Asayo Murakami. Both Otokichi and Asayo imigrated from Hiroshima ,Japan yet at different times and ended up together in the this tiny fishing village. Otokichi and his wife would live in this tiny house with ten children from 1929/1942. The small wooden house was built on piles over the Steveston marsh in 1885. Otokichi was a boat builder fisherman while Asayo worked in the cannery, raised ten children and grew a wonderful garden. Japanese fisherman and their families were important contributors to the Steveston Community. There is also a memorial statue of a Japanese fisherman along tbe boardwalk.

This is a beautiful small family home dating from a century ago. The interior has been recreated and preserved and makes a lovely piece of local history come to life. Definitely worth a visit

This is a place where all the immigrants, who miss their grandparents' houses, can come. It'not just a touristic attraction or anthropological sight, it's truly spiritual place where you can cure your soul.
