My friends drove me here on October 23, 2019 for dinner. I just ordered cod fish and chips and it was probably the best I have ever tried anywhere. While the food was good, we did not see any ocean view although we were sitting by it.

FYI I eat out alot! I've eaten all over the world Eating out is one of my hobbies out here on vancouver island and I've eaten at the Chalet many times. There is a new chef and new menu. everything was amazing and everyone at the table LOVED their food. The Barley Risotto was one of the best meals I've had (sorry no photo of that one) on top of the great food we enjoyed a wonderful view of the inlet.

I eat out regularly and the Malahat Chalet is one of my go to places. So much so that I have gotten to know the staff on a personal level. I must say there clam chowder is the best I have ever had. I compare all others chowders to theirs. Either way I came in later in the evening one night and things were starting to shut down. John was not going to let that stop my culinary experience from happening. He plated up some food and it was delivered with so much pride, and within my visit, john, the head chef, and of course the fabulous server Laura all came by and had a personal chat. It is wonderful when you get great food combined with a wonderful personal experience. The first dish is the new sable fish appetizer.

The view is breath taking whether you are dining or taking a coffee break. We watched eagles soar and dive on the wind currents as the parent eagle was teaching their young.The food was delicious and nicely presented. Their seafood chowder was superb, chock a block full of fish and shellfish.Wait until you see their desserts, if you haven't saves room then be sure to take one home with you!They also have a nice little gift shop with many items from local artists.Enjoy your visit.

We ate here yesterday and was truly a disappointing experience from the go. The breakfast/brunch options on a Sunday morning after 11am are basically non-existent. Very long wait (over an hour), sub-standard food (food was barely warm on a couple plates), and very clearly understaffed.We've had good meals here in the past but won't be returning anytime soon.

The star is for the amazing view. But man, the service and the food are abysmal. We waited 10 minutes for the menu. 10 minutes to order coffee. Another 10 minutes to finally order food. After an hour or so we got our food. 2 servers showed up at our table confused about what over easy eggs look like. The lettuce on my girlfriends burger was literally rotten, housing a tasteless dried out beef patty. When explaining the rotten lettuce to the server and asking for another piece of lettuce the server used her bare hands to open the burger to see for herself. Then when she brought the new piece of lettuce used her bare hands again to remove the old piece of lettuce off her plate. After this she felt so uneasy about the level of food safe happening at this establishment she did not feel comfortable to eat her meal. We asked for the cheque and left without finishing our meals .

We’ve eaten here a number of times - small tables of 2 up to a large group of 10 - and each time the food was really good (no one had any complaints, it was fresh & our orders were always correct) staff was a delight & the beer was cold!I recommend this place to everyone - it’s views are spectacular!!(Pics are from my most recent - solo - visit)

It is easy to dismiss this little gem when you are just driving pass along the highway with their unassuming store front. But once you step in, it is hard to not be impressed by the views! And the setup inside is pretty nice and cozy. My Mint Condition drink is a bit over-limed and sour for my taste. My husband's drink was delicious (forgot the name), so it might have been just choice of drink. Would definitely get a different drink next time. Our food were all very delicious. Loved my salmon cakes. We had high hopes for the desserts. We ordered a slice of the Banana Bomb but was a bit underwhelmed. We actually think we would book a room in their hotel adjacent to the restaurant sometime. The rooms must have incredible views like the restaurant. And it would be quite lovely to wake up and come over to breakfast!

We made a last minute reservation this morning for lunch as this was our first visit to The Malahat Chalet. Service, food, and view were 10/10. It’s a long weekend so they were unfortunately out of a couple of their popular items but I can promise that the halibut and fries are superb. My husband had a burger and says it was great. They noted his allergy and he felt well taken care of. We were even offered a sample of one of their pizzas and it was delicious. No room for dessert but maybe next time! I think that we have found our next “go to” spot!
