Unreliable, first major snowfall of the season is today and it's like this company doesn't exist, backroads aren't plowed (not surprising in the least) but town and main roads not plowed is a first for me. Also takes up to a year sometimes more to do potholes in the backroads.....

They do a great job keeping the roads clear. My job has me servicing the Kootenay area and so far in my opinion the roads and highways have been excellent. Thanks YRB.Mike, Modern Purair.

A few weeks ago, during our first significant snowfall of the year, to my surprise I passed seven plow trucks and one grader between Nelson and Grand Forks. It was early morning and the roads were treacherous yet YRB was doing their best given the snow fall conditions.Today, I phoned them to ask for some assistance with a particular road connecting with Highway 3A (Nelson north shore). The road connects at the highway with both a school bus and transit stop. Icy beneath the compact snow resulting in traffic sliding through the stop sign and bus stop. Both I and the call taker were very pleasant to one another. YRB was very receptive to my concerns and advised that they would be sending out a sand truck right away. I'm sure the call taker doesn't have an easy job, especially on the snowy mornings addressing peoples concerns. Treating them with respect goes a long way I figure and hope to see the sand truck soon. Not every road receives the attention I wish it got but I also realize the hundreds of kilometres that YRB covers will take time.

The way they leave the road in our circle is as though a child plowed it! Should have left it alone, it would have been better. We cringe every snow fall, as we have to dig our way out because of giant mounds left for us to get stuck in and even the snow blower can't get through! And then jump the mound going onto the highway hoping there are no cars or rigs coming at you. Do it right the first time! And a little bit of gravel wouldn't hurt...

Just want to say a HUGE thank you to the grader driver who fixed the Wildhorse Creek Road today. He did a fantastic job despite the road still being frozen in many places and big snow banks along the sides. THANK YOU so MUCH.

Thank you to the snow plow driver who sprayed me with heavy snow while I was clearing my driveway up by the highway at 4 mile this morning. You could have raised the blade but chose not to, how inconsiderate of you.

This year has been the worst YRB performance I've seen for a long time. They wait too long before plowing snow and when they finally get around to it they don't plow it down to pavement. And sanding is almost non existent for weeks until the day before Christmas when they dumped what looked like their entire years supply on the road. Rampant incompetence!!!!!

After having worked off and on with Y R B in the West Kootenays for three years or so as a traffic control person, I was elated upon finding out that they were replacing the last useless Road Maintenance contractors, EMCON. Now, I am extremely disappointed in the level of maintenance being applied to the highways and secondary roads under their care.In the recent snowfall ( Jan.2/3) which was widely broadcast on all media's as an extreme weather warning in which case the road maintenance offices would have been notified well in advance so that they could have their plow trucks in service the whole time which would include 24 hour plowing and sanding.I live out on Broadwater rd. about 4 1/2 kilometers from the Robson Access rd. which is one of those roads that Y R B is responsible for. Broadwater rd. had not seen a plow truck at any time during this extreme weather warning. It makes it kind of difficult for anyone to go to work, or heaven forbid, to the hospital if necessary. It was not until the B.C. Transit bus got stuck due to the 17+ inches of snow on the unplowed/unsanded main road. If someone would have told me that it was EMCON that had been maintaining the road, I would have believed it as this was the typical maintenance that this company used to apply to the roads and highways. It also is beginning to look more and more like Y R B is following in the footsteps of EMCON by ignoring highway maintenance so that the employees can get a bonus at the end of the year for saving the company money by cutting back on the use of all products associated with highway maintenance and road safety.

YRB snow plow operators have zero responsibility or concern, as a “professional driver”, for the safely and well-being of pedestrians and the public.
