Lovely place for readers.Sadly most collection was in French, though I still found a piece or two for my collection.

Honestly, it's expensive for a used bookstore. It's the most expensive used bookstore in Montreal. And the prices on their used bilingual dictionaries are suspicious and offensive. $45 for the Japanese-French one. $25 for Chinese-French. Meanwhile Spanish/German/English-French ones are $12. I paid $10 for Bulgarian-French at this store. I buy a lot of dictionaries because I know a lot of people learning French and it feels exploitative when there's such a big difference in books of similar sizes. I didn't want to be critical but used bilingual dictionaries shouldn't cost that much, even the huge ones. Renaissance sells huge bilingual dictionaries for $4, but here, they're $30. It's too much.

L'Échange is one of the most pleasant used bookstores to shop at in Montreal. Nicely laid out and modern, it is a great place for afternoon book shopping. The store features robust arts, architecture, photography, fiction, theatre, philosophy, non-fiction, and kids sections. There are also CDs and vinyls on hand, but this is not the shop's specialty.A quick note: like other bookstores on Mont-Royal, the selection is mostly in French (the province's main language), and foreigners might not have a lot to select from.Overall, it is a wonderful stop for arts, culture, and especially book lovers. Here, all the greats are present, from Richard Avedon to Plato, Mies van der Rohe to Dickens.

Great spot for music, books, and excellent help! Huge selection of items from many genres. Friendly staff, always helpful. Will visit again soon!Update - I checked out other parts of the store, and there is much more to see. A lot more reference materials, and the CD selection, upon a second view, is quite impressive! The prices, for the most part, are reasonable - an MJ album (Thriller) was 18$ used, Kate Bush (15$). Not bad!Books, there are a lot of options! I think you need a good day to browse, read, and enjoy the selection to see what's there, and what might you want.

Prices are reasonable. Some CDs could be cheaper though. CDs that are already in the case are usually in good condition. If you have to get the CD at the cash desk, check its condition before you buy it.

One of my preferred bookstores in Montreal. In the 90s, I used to go there every weekend to buy used music CDs. Nowadays, it's where I go to replenish my collection of used vinyls and French books (most of their books are in French as others have already pointed out).

I have been shopping here since 1995, when I was 13. My grandmother still lives a block away and I would always stop in when visiting her as a kid, teen, adult etc. In the mid 90s, this was the only place I could find all the punk tapes and CDs I was looking for. It was a mecca for me and I am forever thankful that I had such a wonderful place to really find myself musically. After I moved from punk to Brit pop in the late 90s, early 2000s, this was the first place I'd go to find all the records I'd read about in NME, Q, etc. They always had them and they were always well priced. A true gem that I'm glad to see is still kicking.
