I enjoyed my time here. Parking is right outside. The center is full of interesting information about the locks. Then in the back there's the viewing area. Steps and ramp available to go up to get a good look at the locks in action. Lake Huron is lower than Lake Superior so when a ship comes into the lock they raise or lower the water depending on the direction of the ship so it can carry on its way. It's neat to see.

I really loved seeing the boats and ships going through the locks... it was fascinating! We were there for about an hour and a half and watched 2 smaller boats and a huge cargo ship go through

We took a boat ride through the Soo locks the previous day. We greatly enjoyed that trip, so we return the next day to visit the visitor center. The displays were visually appealing, educational, and very interesting. Some of them were interactive, which was fun for kids and adults alike. The people that worked there we're very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I like the calendar that showed when the ships were scheduled to come through, as well as the TV monitors that showed what was coming and going. We then went out to the viewing deck and watched one of the ships go through the locks. I'm so glad we came!

Visitor Center was closed the day we were in town, but the kinda-covered observation platform gives you a really good view of 2 of the locks. Too bad it's not like 10 stories tall to get an even better view of the whole river and well into Canada. We had perfect timing when we stopped by as we were able to watch 2 ships (one was a massive container ship, which was cool to see in person) go into the lock headed west toward Lake Superior, and watch the water level rise. They also have a hotline phone # you can call that lists when ships are expected so you can pre-plan your visit a little better.

Worth the stop if you're interested in how ships move through the great lakes. Take a few extra minutes to watch a ship actually transition through the locks it's worth the time.

Understanding the concept of Soo pocks is a must for everyone. You can actually view how the water goes up and down from the visitor center. But if you want to enjoy the actual experience, please do it from some ferry near by. It costs around 30 bucks per adult. But from this center, yes, you can clearly see how the ferries are raised up and make it down.

Visitor's Center has lots of cool interactive & informative exhibits. Staff was so friendly & spent time answering questions in detail. Ask about taking the Water Pledge for a free goodie bag!

An outstanding place to visit and learn about the significance of shipping on the Great Lakes. It is easy to locate right on the Main Street and the river. The visitors center has a viewing area to watch ships so make sure you get to see one or more. The grounds are beautiful, especially in the autumn. There are restaurants close by. Great stop and only 50 miles from Mackinaw City.
